Within the Faculty of Law and Criminology (DRT) and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Legal and Criminological Sciences (JUR-I), Social Sciences and Humanities Sector, this position will include the following teaching, research and community service duties:

• Teaching

You will primarily teach in the field of criminology. You will teach in various degree programs administered by the faculty, particularly within the School of Criminology. This School is characterised by its commitment to a broad and critical conception of criminology. The Master’s program in criminology introduces students to the analysis of deviance from psychological, legal, sociological, and forensic perspectives. It involves bringing these different approaches into dialogue with one another. The program also focuses on the analysis of social practices related to deviance: legislative practices, prevention efforts, judicial activity (particularly criminal justice), prison policy, and various forms of treatment or care for offenders. You will also supervise master’s theses in criminology.

• Research

You will develop your research activities, including the lead of research programmes, in the field of criminology, and particularly criminology as approached at UCLouvain, namely from a critical and multidisciplinary perspective. You will be responsible for the supervision of PhD theses.

Once tenured, you will carry out various service activities and responsibilities within the institution, such as being a member of a programme committee or examination committee, or having management responsibilities within the faculty or research institute.

You will also contribute to serving society, particularly in the economic, social, cultural or development cooperation fields. Finally, you will ensure, through research and teaching activities, the university’s international visibility.

Who we’re looking for

• Education

You have a PhD in Criminology or an equivalent Ph.D. in the humanities or social sciences with specific expertise in criminology, in the field of deviance or the associated social response.

Building on a foundation in one of the perspectives covered by criminology, you have developed the ability to adopt an interdisciplinary, constructivist, critical, and historically situated approach and to apply contemporary theoretical frameworks. You have excellent command of research methodology in the humanities and social sciences. Experience in empirical field research is a significant asset.

• Experience

You have a proven track record in university teaching, with evidence where possible by formal evaluations. Your scientific experience is demonstrated by publications of international standing.

You have supplemented this with an extended stay or significant experience abroad, outside the institution that awarded your doctorate.

• Skills

You are comfortable working as part of a team of academics and integrate research results into your teaching. You are capable of conducting high-level scientific research, from obtaining funding to team management. You are creative, open to pedagogical innovation and multidisciplinary.
