The Future Society (TFS) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operating in the United States and Europe with the mission to align AI through better governance. We develop, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of governance mechanisms designed to ensure AI systems are safe and uphold fundamental values. Through our work, we collaborate with intergovernmental organizations, governments, companies, academic institutions, think tanks, and other civil society organizations.

The Future Society (TFS) is seeking team members for our European AI Governance team. These hires will play a critical part in scaling up our well-established European AI governance activities, including advisory and advocacy work, international coordination efforts, and policy research.

We are open to hiring into the team across three seniority levels: Analyst, Associate, and Senior Associate.

Analyst:

  • Support advocacy by drafting materials (comment letters, briefings, regulatory submissions) and tracking regulatory developments
  • Support stakeholder outreach and coalition-building, tracking engagement and attending meetings
  • Assist with events and convenings
  • Support projects for other themes as needed
  • Help build organizational knowledge alongside the manager and senior team members

Associate:

  • Drive TFS’ policy engagement, in Europe and allied jurisdictions, by researching, preparing and disseminating AI policy memos and other outputs, and building and managing relationships with policymakers, civil society groups, and other relevant actors
  • Convene and manage relevant stakeholders by organizing and participating in workshops, working groups, joint written outputs, events and conferences (including managing contacts and invitations, event content, and other written material)
  • Work with TFS’ leadership to map and build coalitions of stakeholders to advocate for and support implementation of our policy positions in Europe and elsewhere
  • Attend and represent TFS at national and international AI policy forums, events and workshops with multi-stakeholder AI technical and policy experts
  • Support organizational needs as required including project and knowledge management, fundraising, grant proposals, impact planning and assessments, and strategic communications

Senior Associate (in addition to Associate responsibilities, with greater autonomy):

  • Manage critical stakeholder relationships independently, attend external events (including speaking engagements) without direct supervision
  • Generate ideas for high-impact projects and contribute to the European team’s strategy
  • Likely to manage staff at the Associate or Analyst level; expected to treat people management as an essential area for skills development
