Overall Mission

As part of the development and continuous improvement of maintenance activities, Westinghouse Electric Belgium is looking for a Maintenance Engineering Apprentice to join the Pump & Motor Platform Methods Department in Nivelles.

Apprenticeship Details

  • Position: Maintenance Engineer Apprentice (Master's Degree)
  • Location: Nivelles, Belgium
  • Department: Pump & Motor Methods Department
  • Duration: Mid-September 2026 to Mid-June 2027
  • Schedule: Alternating one week in the company / one week in academic training

Main Project

Implementation of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

You will lead the design, structuring, and deployment of a maintenance management system for the key equipment used in the Pump & Motor workshop.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Identifying and prioritizing critical equipment.
  • Developing comprehensive technical equipment data sheets.
  • Structuring spare parts management, including references, criticality, and inventory levels.
  • Defining and justifying preventive maintenance frequencies using:
    • Manufacturer recommendations
    • Historical maintenance data
    • FMEA analyses
    • Reliability studies
  • Developing an automated maintenance reminder system through CMMS and notification tools.
  • Configuring and integrating maintenance data into the CMMS.
  • Ensuring long-term consistency, reliability, and sustainability of the maintenance system.

Additional Responsibilities

Technical Expertise & Field Support

  • Participate in preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical support to field maintenance teams.
  • Analyze equipment failures and recommend sustainable corrective actions.
  • Conduct preliminary troubleshooting and first-level interventions when possible.

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to equipment reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Apply maintenance methodologies and analytical tools such as:
    • FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis)
    • Root Cause Analysis
    • Reliability-centered approaches
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, availability, and maintenance costs.

Maintenance Methods Development

  • Support the standardization of maintenance practices.
  • Improve the quality and structure of technical data.
  • Participate in the development of maintenance management tools and methods.

Safety & Compliance

  • Integrate safety requirements into maintenance plans.
  • Participate in risk assessments and hazard analysis activities.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with applicable safety and quality standards.

Knowledge Management

  • Monitor interventions performed by external contractors.
  • Capture and capitalize technical feedback, including:
    • Failure modes
    • Replaced components
    • Lessons learned
    • Best practices
  • Support the Methods Department on various engineering and maintenance projects.

Accountabilities

  • Successfully deploy a structured and operational CMMS system.
  • Improve reliability and availability of critical workshop equipment.
  • Optimize spare parts management processes.
  • Contribute to the development and standardization of maintenance practices.
  • Support the collection and preservation of technical knowledge and field experience.

As part of the nuclear environment, the workshop is located within a controlled area. Medical examinations and radiation monitoring will be conducted by the Radiation Protection Department throughout the apprenticeship.

Education

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Maintenance Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
