Our client, Monard Law, is one of Belgium’s larger independent law firms, with offices across the country and strong local roots. Known for its pragmatic, high-quality legal advice and personal approach, the firm is looking to strengthen its Brussels Employment Law team with an Associate who has a passion for employment law.

In this role, you will work closely with Belgian and international clients and advise them on a broad range of employment law matters. Thanks to the compact size of the team, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of your files and develop your expertise while working closely with experienced colleagues.

About the role

“Do more of what you love” is one of the guiding principles in our client’s mission statement.

As its practice continues to grow, our client is looking for an Associate to join the Employment Law team in Brussels (Antwerp or Hasselt).

What will you do?

  • You will advise Belgian and international clients. Depending on your interests and expertise, your work will cover individual employment law (including recruitment, dismissal and remuneration issues), collective employment law (including collective bargaining, restructuring and transfers of undertakings), international mobility, employment-related criminal law and a wide range of other advisory matters.
  • You will also gain hands-on experience before the courts. In other words, you will be at the forefront of our practice, handling a varied workload.
  • You will join a dynamic practice group where ideas and expertise are shared.
  • Together, we can define your career goals based on your personal ambitions. Whether you want to develop a particular area of expertise, enjoy challenging legal work while maintaining a manageable schedule, or build your own client base and progress within our firm over time, we strive to find a rewarding place in the team for everyone.

What does the ideal candidate look like?

To succeed in this role, we believe you will have:

You hold a Master’s degree in Law from a Belgian university, possibly complemented by further studies in labour and social security law.

  • You ideally have two to five years’ experience practising Belgian employment law as a lawyer.
  • You are passionate about employment law, with an interest in both individual and collective employment law.
  • You enjoy advising both domestic and international clients.
  • You have an eye for detail and enjoy working in a diverse, multilingual team.
  • You are fluent in either Dutch or French and have a basic knowledge of English.

What is in it for you?

Monard Law offers a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment where you will have the freedom and support to develop your expertise and shape your career around your ambitions.

  • A broad and challenging Employment Law practice, combining advisory work and litigation
  • The opportunity to work with Belgian and international clients on varied employment law matters

  • The freedom to develop your expertise in areas that match your interests
  • Challenging legal work with room for a manageable schedule
  • Support to build your own client base and progress within the firm
  • A welcoming environment with room for personal and professional growth
  • A role based in Brussels, with openness to working from other Monard Law offices
