Our client is an investment firm that provides patient capital and operational support to a growing portfolio of small and medium-sized businesses, across a wide range of industries. In order to further improve the operational development of the portfolio companies we are looking for an OPERATIONS DIRECTOR. The firm currently owns and operates a portfolio of 8 companies employing over 150 people. Existing businesses span a wide range of industries (software, professional services, B2B distribution, industrial goods, etc.) and is evolving rapidly as 1-4 businesses are added to the portfolio each year. The firm offers a highly entrepreneurial work environment and a culture of autonomy and responsibility. The role In summary the Operations Director will be responsible for advising, guiding, and implementing strategies that enhance the operational performance and growth of the portfolio companies. He/She will carry out specific change and improvement projects within the companies, in close collaboration with the companies' managers/CEOs and the investment team. His/Her responsibilities will be diverse and evolve over time: Identifying and implementing value creation strategies and driving initiatives across the portfolio companies, aiming at increasing the top line and the bottom line (e.g. cost reductions, resource optimisation, pricing strategies, opening of new markets, etc.) Streamlining of processes, implementing digital productivity tools, ERP migrations, etc. Providing operational support to company managers on specific issues (e.g. recruitment, relationship with key clients/suppliers, dispute resolution, opening of offices/subsidiaries, etc.) Acting as a point of contact between the firm and the portfolio companies for all operational matters (including acting as a company director) Recruiting and mentoring/coaching managers and support talent development within the portfolio companies, including by participating in the recruitment of key people in line with the firm's & HR talent strategy Collaborating with the investment team on the analysis and due diligence of new acquisition opportunities (operational/integration angle: identification of key issues and opportunities, etc.). Profile The main profile and competency requirements can be summarized as follows: No specific degree requirement, although reasoning at a master's level is a must Min. 10 years of relevant experience with a significant impact on his/her environment and a proven track record of leading and implementing operational changes in an organisation (including in the areas listed as examples in the Position Description) Leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate and empower others, regardless of their background Can-do attitude – the Business Operations Director is expected to get the job done despite sometimes challenging circumstances Ability to face adversity and conflict situations Results- and action-oriented; a real problem solver Ability to handle a wide variety of tasks and competing priorities Ability to stay calm under pressure Digitally savvy and a keen user of technology Strong written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English. Knowledge of French is an asset. Willingness to work across several locations in Flanders. Open to working via own management company.
