**YOUR TASKS**
This job opening is for a position for 20% (MA-level) as researchers of the 4-year Medium-Scale Research Infrastructure project NECROPOLIS UNITED, aiming at an integrated data platform of dead and missing migrants in Europe (FWO funded).
- You will conduct high-level experimental and theoretical research within the framework of this research project on the development of an integrated data platform of deceased and disappeared migrants in Europe, and as embedded in different research projects (practice-based art research, art sciences / performance studies, cartography and human rights).
- You will be part of an international team of researchers and stakeholders working on this research project, and you will participate in the research activities of these partners.
- Together with the project coordinator, you will take part in the preparation and organisation of research activities (e.g. multilingual workshops, lectures, guest lectures,...) to design protocols/rituals in relation to the database and data infrastructure
- You will analyse and integrate the existing data sources related to this research
You will design and develop the data infrastructure required for these social interactions.
**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- You have obtained a Master in Architecture and Urban Planning, Fine Arts with a focus on socially engaged projects, Geography and Urban Planning, or similar.
- You have research experience on art, graphic design, cartography, society, human rights, geographical or spatial analysis and visualisation techniques.
- You take responsibility for developing the data infrastructure in a well-structured and thorough manner, and you are able to solve problems independently.
- You are creative when it comes to solving problems, generating ideas and finding new ways of working.
- You have an open personality, and you are willing to contribute to the functioning of the team.
- You are used to engage with administrations, NGOs, citizens driven initiatives, companies, and academic research to develop methodologies and facilitate the most crucial steps teams have to go through in order to shape information systems.
- You are willing to work in close collaboration with the people directly concerned by the data (e.g. NGOs, but also, through collaboration with the project Trace the Face, with the relatives of the missing migrants).
- You have excellent teaching and communication skills in English and French, both oral and written.
- You provide scientific support for developing the integrated and updated database and the set-up for a sustainable digital information system architecture;
- a strong affinity and/or prior experience with the design work of Atelier Cartographique and the artistic work of Arkadi Zaides is a plus
**WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU**
- We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period from mid-July 2024 to 30 September 2025
- Your contract will start on 15/07/2024 at the earliest.
- Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
