What you'll do

Our client, a renowned company active in the insurance sector based in the center of Brussels, is looking for a Legal counsel at the Chief Investment Office specialised in financial law to cover a sick leave from 6 to 9 months.

The person will be working at the decentralized legal function within the Chief Investment Office at our client during the absence of one of the two members. Together with the head of Legal CIO, she/he shall ensure thus the legal services within the department as well as the support to other departments on demand. From departure, there is no specific mission but rather to manage the daily requests and the unexpected.
- It shall assist the department in the review of all legal matters, mainly with the drafting and review of all relevant contracts such as contracts with service providers ( investment managers, software suppliers, etc), with counterparties (ISDA and CSA, GMSLAs, GMRAs, deal confirmations among others), loan agreements (such as syndicated loans, club deals, PPPs, €PP, among others), investment in funds, memoranda of understanding, commitment letters, disclosure/non-disclosure agreements, guarantees, implementing SFDR and taxonomy and all relevant documents for investments in different kind of funds, bonds, and other financial instruments
- It shall attend when and if required all relevant meetings when requested such as credit risk committees, investment committees or any ad hoc committee and provide its opinion on demand of relevant legal aspects, orally and also in writing if needed be.
- It shall monitor and assess all new national, international and European legislation pertinent to the department and provide a feedback to the management of CIO.
- It shall assist other departments or units with legal questions related to CIO or a particular legislation when needed.
- It shall assist in the drafting of communications to be held with relevant authorities (BNB, FSMA among others) if needed be.
- It shall assist the decentralized compliance on specific legal matters as well as the internal or external auditors when needed.

Who we're looking for
- You are fluency in English and Dutch and/or French. Knowledge of the third language is preferable.
- You completed a Belgian master's in law. A specialisation in financial law is preferable.
- You have 5 to 8 years of core experience either as in-house lawyer or as a lawyer within a law firm specialized in: financing transactions, derivatives, investment constructions in general.
- You have experience in the financial sector (either in banking institutions, insurance companies, investment management companies or related) or experience as lawyer in a law firm oriented to financing transactions, finance solutions or banking and insurance services.
- You have a sound knowledge of the finance sector national and European regulatory environment.
- You preferably have knowledge of the insurance sector (mainly life insurance) and sound knowledge of SFDR and taxonomy.
- You are organized with very good analytical skills (attention to detail expected) and able to develop legal opinions or solutions in an autonomous and creative way
- You are able to defend your opinion and communicate it in an assertive way.
- You are a team player but also able to work alone with few or no instructions.
- You have an hands-on approach and proactive
- You are preferably able to go beyond the legal context and understand complex financial mechanisms.
- You have people management skills, although not mandatory
