**ASSIGNMENT**
Starting from 1 September 2025, a fulltime (100%) position of (Tenure Track) assistant professor is vacant in the Linguistics department of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, including academic education, scientific research and academic service in the domain of French linguistics with a specialisation in _French_ _(instructed) second language acquisition _(SLA), and, additionally interest in language variation.
**Academic education**
You teach, in collaboration with the supporting staff, various course units within the domain of French language proficiency in the Bachelor's program in Linguistics and Literature, and contribute to a lesser extent to the teaching of French linguistics, more specifically language variation.
You are responsible for teaching French language didactics within the Educational Master's programs in Languages. You strengthen the connection between the Master in Linguistics and Literature and the Educational Master's programs in Languages, and you supervise and assess master's theses on language acquisition and language didactics.
**Academic research**
You conduct evidence-based research in the field of (instructed) French Second Language Acquisition, i.e. empirical research on how individuals (best) acquire a foreign language in instructional settings, within the Multiples research group of the Department of Linguistics.
**Academic services**
You take part in the internal and external service provision of the department of Linguistics, the French section and the Educational program.
**PROFILE**
**Experience**
- You have already conducted eminent academic research in French Linguistics, more specifically in the field of (instructed) Second Language Acquisition (SLA) of French, as evidenced by publications in high-quality, peer-reviewed scientific journals and books.
- You are capable of initiating, supervising and acquiring the necessary funding for academic research (this criterion is assessed taking into account your career stage and the opportunities available in previous positions);
- You are didactically skilled to teach university students to develop academic competences;
- Recommended:
- Experience with conducting strongly empirically-based research using learner data, for example, through learner corpora, experiments, and surveys/interviews.
- Experience in teaching French linguistics, more specifically in the fields of French SLA (Second Language Acquisition) or FLE (français langue étrangère)/French second language didactics and Language variation (this criterion is assessed taking into account your career stage and the opportunities available in previous positions).
- International mobility, a.o. research stays at institutions external to the one where you acquired your highest academic degree;
- Positively evaluated experience in provided or organised academic lecturing;
- Professionalisation of education.
- Affinities with Digital Humanities
- You must master the language of instruction in which you will teach a course at CEFR- level C1.You can demonstrate this by means of a language certificate or a diploma obtained from an institution in which that language is the language of instruction. In addition, Article II.270, -1 of the Codex of Higher Education requires that: (i) you must master the Dutch language at least at CEFR-level A2 within two years after the start of the appointment. (ii) you must be able to master the Dutch language at least at CEFR-level of B2 within five years after the start of the appointment. **Admission requirements**
- You hold a thesis-based doctorate in French (possibly applied) Linguistics or a diploma or certificate that is recognised as equivalent (article V.20 Codex Higher Education).
Upon evaluation of a foreign (non-EU) diploma, a certificate of equivalence may still have to be requested at NARIC. If this is the case, we advise you to initiate this recognition procedure as soon as possible. You are required to have the recognition no later than on the date of your appointment.
