Dba Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant DBA with expertise in Solaris and Sybase databases. As a Consultant DBA, you will be responsible for the operational maintenance and support of Sybase and Solaris systems, ensuring their smooth day-to-day operations. Additionally, you will provide assistance during planned migrations from Sybase to MsSQL, working closely with our external partners, DECIS, who will carry out the migrations.

**Responsibilities**:

- System Maintenance: Implement and manage database backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime. Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as database reorganizations, index maintenance, and space management.
- Security and Compliance: Ensure the security and compliance of Sybase and Solaris systems by implementing appropriate access controls, auditing mechanisms, and data encryption. Stay up to date with industry best practices and security standards.
- Performance Tuning: Analyze and optimize the performance of Sybase and Solaris databases by identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, fine-tuning SQL queries, and optimizing system configurations.
- Migration Support: Collaborate with the external partners, DECIS, during the planned migration projects from Sybase to MsSQL. Provide technical expertise and guidance, review migration plans, and assist with data validation and testing.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Prepare regular reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and migration progress.
- Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and project managers, to ensure smooth operations and successful project execution. Share knowledge and provide guidance to team members and stakeholders.

**Requirements**:

- Proven experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) with a focus on Sybase and Solaris systems.
- In-depth knowledge of Sybase database administration, including installation, configuration, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and security management.
- Strong proficiency in Solaris administration, including system monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Experience with database migration projects, preferably from Sybase to MsSQL.
- Familiarity with database security best practices and compliance requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
- Professional certifications in Sybase and Solaris administration (e.g., Sybase ASE certification, Oracle Solaris certification) will be a plus.
