The EVP, Chief Risk Officer, Europe & Regulated Entities, is a key role within the Risk executive management team, reporting to Mastercard’s Chief Risk Officer. This role has responsibility for championing regulated entity operational and business risk management practices in Europe both internally at a senior management and Board level, and externally with all core customers and applicable regulators. Six regulated entity second line risk teams that currently exist across various lines of business in Europe will report to this position, either direct or dual reporting, aligned with specific regulatory requirements.
Role
Maintain and develop the enterprise-wide risk management framework in Europe across the end-to-end business processes and in alignment with with Mastercard parent overall risk management framework including the following:
- Implement the overall risk strategy across the Europe region to promote awareness and risk culture across all associated business units as well as manage second line risk for key regulated businesses outside of Europe
- Develop and maintain a risk appetite profile and taxonomy in line with strategic changes and aligned with Mastercard parent, as applicable
- Support first line of defense business owners to identify and monitor all material risks and associated risk mitigation plans
- Provide reports on the risk profile to the Mastercard CRO and ensure that risks and issues are escalated effectively
- Maintain risk policies and procedures in accordance with Mastercard parent requirements
- Maintain quality of data within the risk database system for reporting and tracking purposes
- Ensure senior management and Board visibility of Europe’s material operational/business risks; and appropriately inform the wider commercial decision-making processes
- Maintain a risk register that records the key regional corporate and business unit risks, seeking input from the senior management team and disclosure to the Mastercard Europe Board to ensure the register accurately reflects the firm’s risk profile
- Proactive design and development/maintenance of risk methodologies, frameworks, and policies
- Advisory, training and challenge to the 1st line of defense and business on risk matters
- Provision of risk perspective to strategic, business, change and other processes as needed
- Being an active business partner to the organization across operations, new business, and current portfolio
- Ensure reporting and escalations are clear and actionable to executive management, Europe Risk Committee and Board - where relevant ensure risk stance and concerns are aggregated into Mastercard parent reporting
- Active and detailed involvement in material and risk-related change efforts to ensure visibility and challenge/input from risk through the change effort
- Monitor the aggregate risk appetite in order to provide the senior management team, Mastercard parent, and the Europe board with visibility of any breaches to risk appetite positions in a timely manner
- Chair revelent Europe Risk Committees
- Maintain Europe risk taxonomy
- Develop internal risk quantification/modeling expertise to identify and assess keyword scenarios in regulatory capital adequacy levels for unlikely but plausible risk events
