Under the guidance of the Director of Research and in close coordination with the communications, publications and research teams as well as with colleagues from the regional programs, the Editor helps deliver Crisis Group's French publications to the highest standard, including by editing original reports, briefings and commentaries in French, and coordinating/reviewing translations from English to French, especially on Africa but not exclusively. Importantly, the Editor also contributes to the production of the Africa regional section of our monthly global conflict tracker Crisis Watch.

**Responsibilities**:

- Edit Crisis Group publications in French, including reports/briefings, commentaries and other outputs, to ensure clarity, house style and consistency with the organization's policy positions;
- Draft monthly conflict updates on Africa in English to support the production of CrisisWatch, a global conflict tracker and early warning tool;
- Review translations of Crisis Group materials English to French to ensure clarity and consistency with house style;
- Coordinate the delivery of English to French translations, and French to English as appropriate, and manage relations with external translators as needed;
- Maintain overall oversight on the organization's style guide and best practices related to French outputs;
- Provide additional organizational support under the guidance of the Director of Research to the Early Warning and Research team, the Africa program and the Communications unit.

**Requirements include**:

- Full fluency in French and English;
- Extensive, proven drafting and editing experience in French;
- Excellent drafting skills in English;
- Strong research skills and an eye for detail;
- Strong interest in global politics and conflict prevention, management and resolution;
- Demonstrated interest in Africa region, with preferably some field experience;
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks to tight deadlines;
- At least three years’ work experience;
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
