**RESPONSIBILITIES**
Within BASF Seed and Traits R&D, genome engineering refers to generation of genetically modified plants. The Plant Genome Engineering group in Trait Research combines state-of-the-art genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation expertise, as well as are highly experienced in workflow-based operational organization aimed at mínimal cost and timelines while ensuring required quality. Plant Genome Engineering is embedded in a research department that focuses on trait discovery, engineering and evaluation. For the Plant Genome Engineering group in our R&D Innovation Center in Ghent (Belgium) we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Technician.

What you can expect:

- In this role you will be part of our Plant Genome Engineering group and support delivering on R&D projects at a competitive cost, speed and quality.
- As a Technician, you will be hands-on involved in the execution and organization of research projects related to genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation.
- You will be involved in technology development and platform innovation as well as in workflow-based operations.
- You will plan and execute your work independently, in alignment with the team goals set by your supervisor.
- You will record, compile, summarize experimental data and report to your supervisor and in the relevant databases (Ceres & ELN).
- You will contribute to optimizing protocols and workflows and you will troubleshoot where needed.
- You will act as a role model with respect to ensuring compliance with the relevant company standards (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, Biosafety, Stewardship,...).

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- You have a Bachelor's degree Life Sciences (or equivalent through experience) with a minimum of 3 years lab experience.
- Multi-crop experience in relevant aspects of plant genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation is preferred.
- You are accurate and technically independent.
- You have a good knowledge and understanding of technical protocols and can contribute in optimizing them.
- You are able to self-assess the quality of the materials and data you produce, and troubleshoot when needed.
- You are self-organized, able to plan and organize your work on a weekly basis.
- You have advanced computer skills (Microsoft office) and operational knowledge of relevant software and databases (Ceres & ELN).
- You have effective communication skills, both verbally and written in Dutch and English.
- You are a team player.
- You are positive, enthusiastic, pragmatic and you have a getting-things-done mentality.
- You are an innovative thinker in process & efficiency improvement.
