This internship focuses on supporting Toyota Motor Europe’s R&D team by evaluating 5G communication systems, developing Linux-based vehicle communication prototypes, analyzing data, and contributing to the evolution of communication systems into edge and cloud-aware automotive platforms

Your team and your responsibilities:
**Team/division description**

In the Toyota Motor Europe / R&D Group, the Technology Planning Incubation Division has the mission to pick up key future communication and networking technologies and to get them included in the internal agenda.

To support the moving towards becoming a Mobility Company, the competencies on handling Big Data is now a key asset and a transversal team lead by TPI has been setup.

**Your project**

As intern you will be supporting the R&D team and,
- Obtain a solid understanding of 5G communication systems and essential factors determining their performance and deliver a documented outcome accordingly.
- Learn how to systematically setup, execute network performance evaluation trials on evolving 5G NSA (Non-Stand-Alone) and SA (Stand Alone) networks to deliver results of the end-to-end work.
- Build up small-scale Linux-based vehicle-system, including software development environment and hardware prototypes for communication system evaluation, scripting, open-source and programming knowledge to deliver tangible findings.
- Contribute to defining how the above communication systems will evolve into an edge and cloud-aware portable platform, including software programming (SDK use, API integration, i.e., Docker image creation), collecting data and evaluating acquisition process, proposing valuable changes or adaptation.

Define in alignment with Toyota Engineering teams, the postprocessing and analysis of obtained Data collection and acquired results, up to delivering documented insights to the “global picture” in building a broader automotive system.

Your Profile:

- You are fluent in English (TME’s business language)
- Student in their last year of master study in electrical, automotive or computer/communication engineering.
- Save handling of the Linux operating system, shell commands, incl. console and scripting.
- Coding languages: C/C++, Python, and Debian 11.x, BASH and/or CSH scripting.
- Experienced with embedded systems, wireless modems under Linux.
- Knowledge in wireless and fixed communication systems.
- Fluent in English (reading; writing; speaking) and flexible team player.
- Seek facts before making recommendations or decisions, have strong planning and organizing skills.
- Communicate in a clear and timely manner
