**YOUR TASKS**
VITAL is a Horizon Europe project, coordinated by UGent. It will deliver a comprehensive, clinically validated, multi-scale, multi-organ modelling platform that is driven by and can represent individual patient data acquired both in the clinic and from wearable technology. The platform will create a virtual human twin for individualised and sex-specific optimisation of medical (pharmacological) or surgical (interventional) therapy for complex, multifactorial cardiovascular disorders that have systemic impact and high risk of comorbidities of, amongst others, the kidney and brain: systemic hypertension, heart failure (with/without preserved ejection fraction) and hemodynamically complicated atrial septal defects.
Within VITAL, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on the development, implementation and validation of multi-scale computational models of the cardiac and cardiovascular system. This involves hands-on research as well as coordination of the collaboration with the involved partners.
**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- You hold a thesis-based doctorate in Biomedical Engineering/Biomechanics
- You have expert knowledge on nonlinear continuum mechanics. You are familiar with hyperelastic, viscoelastic and anisotropic material formulations of soft biological tissue, as well as with growth
- and remodeling and/or damage formulations.
- You have experience with multi-scale & multi-physics modeling of biomechanical systems.
- You have expert knowledge on finite element theory and master Abaqus or a similar FE software package, including experience with user material subroutine programming and scripting.
- You have a good level of programming skills in fortran, python and/or matlab.
- You have a strong interest in cardiac and/or cardiovascular mechanobiology and growth and remodeling.
- You have a multidisciplinary attitude. You will be closely collaborating in a multidisciplinary team of biomedical scientists, engineers and cardiac surgeons.
- You are creative, take initiative and are a team player.
- You have good communication and educational skills and are willing to take on responsibility.
- You are fluent in both written and spoken English
**WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU**
- We offer you a contract of definite duration for a period of 2 years (50%)
- Your contract will start on 1/04/2025 at the earliest.
- Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
