For this project, you will work as part of the “AlUla Inscriptions Corpus Analysis Project (AICAP).” This is a four-year collaboration between Ghent University and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU). The project will develop an online, accessible, long-term database of the inscriptions documented in the AlUla County, in Saudi Arabia, by the RCU. The inscriptions include texts from as early as the 6th century BC up to modern Arabic graffiti.

The goal of the project is to digitize and analyze the thousands of inscriptions that the RCU collected to understand and share AlUla's rich, intercultural history through the inscriptions of its historical residents and visitors, while also shedding new light on, among others, Ancient North Arabian languages and Arabic. Besides its scientific goals, the project will also contribute to capacity building and public outreach programming in AlUla.

**YOUR TASKS**

As project manager you will have a dual mission: ensuring smooth collaboration with Ghent University and the RCU, and compliance with local administration in both Belgium and Saudi Arabia, as well as managing the logistics of field-work campaigns. An important portion of your tasks will be performed during fieldwork (**3-4 months **per year**) in Saudi Arabia.
- You will be responsible for the administrative duties related to the project’s embedding in Ghent University. This will include:

- administrative support for new project members,
- declaration of expenses,
- administration surrounding permits and visas,
- administration around the organization of events and their promotion through different media channels.
- You will be responsible for collaborating with the RCU to ensure that the project is compliant with local regulations, especially as they relate to permits, and the security and maintenance of historical sites.
- You will support the research team in their general output
- By participating in, and planning reading sessions,
- Proofreading,
- And by contributing to the edition of the final project reports.
- To support the teaching element of the project, you will help to recruit Saudi and other students to take courses in conjunction with RCU and Ghent University.
- You will be in charge of the logistics of annual fieldwork in Saudi Arabia.
- Daily housekeeping activities
- Management of daily groceries and organization of meals
- Rental of equipment and cars
- Vehicle transportation of team members

**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- You hold a Master’s degree, preferably in archaeology, anthropology, geography or a related field.
- You have experience in project management.
- You have (archaeological) fieldwork experience.
- Your language competence in Arabic should be sufficient to oversee the administrative and logistic requirements in Saudi Arabia.
- Preferably, your language competence in Dutch should be sufficient to oversee the administrative and logistic requirements in Belgium.
- Your English should be sufficient for effective academic communication and publication.
- You should be able and willing to spend significant time (2-4 months at a time) in Saudi Arabia for fielwork and project coordination.
- You have a valid driving license.
