We are looking for a MSAT Lab Head to join us in our Global Biologics Manufacturing Sciences & Technology (MSAT) team, based in Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium

About the role

The MSAT Lab Head is responsible for:

- All lab activities and reports to the Head of Global Biologics MSAT.
- Timely delivering on all lab-based MSAT activities by managing a team of Leads and bench-level scientists.
- Covering both Upstream and Downstream aspects of the biologics drug substance manufacturing process.

Who you’ll work with:

- Pieter Jacobs as your Manager, Head of Global Biologics MSAT.
- Your team composed by (Senior) Scientits Leads and SME’s.
- Many other internal and external partners.

What you’ll do:

- Provide scientific leadership and ensure MSAT Lab Support for Technology Transfers, Process Validations, Manufacturing Operations and deviations/investigations as required, by ensuring the design and execution of appropriate studies.
- Lead, mentor and develop the MSAT Lab team.
- Lead the setup and start-up of the MSAT lab.
- Manage all Upstream, Downstream and Analytical activities within the MSAT lab.
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation of any scientific experimental plan, data and report, according to GSP principles.
- Author and review technical protocols and reports, as appropriate.
- Ensure that MSAT policies, Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions are developed and kept up to date.
- Ensure that the MSAT lab team members are appropriately trained in lab and HSE procedures.
- Ensure that the appropriate standards of quality, housekeeping and safety are being applied within the MSAT lab.
- Facilitate building of harmonized and standardized procedures for scale down models.
- Drive process optimization studies in support of Lifecycle Management activities.
- Support Regulatory inspections and submissions.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with stakeholders
- Establish and maintain familiarity with contemporary industrial standards, practices, technologies, literature and ways of performing lab studies.

Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
- PhD preferred or equivalent by experience in a relevant scientific discipline.
- At least 8 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in either Upstream and/or Downstream bioprocessing, including at least 2 years of experience as a People Manager.
- Experience in Technology Transfer and scale-up/scale-down of drug substance processes is a plus.
- Good understanding of biopharmaceutical operations and cGMP.
- Very good technical writing skills.
- Very good command in English, both oral and written, good command in French is a plus.

Soft skills:

- Strong ability to communicate effectively and connect with peers from different functions (matrix organization) to ensure projects are delivered.
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with a high tolerance for ambiguity.
- Self-motivated, proactive with a can-do attitude.
