Job description
** Carbon-Free Europe (CFE) **is working towards a future where climate and energy policy across Europe is evidence-based, existing carbon-free solutions are rapidly deployed, and investment is readily available for the next generation technologies needed to get all the way to net-zero by 2050. CFE was launched by Third Way’s Climate and Energy Program to build international support for a technology-inclusive climate agenda and encourage governments to maximise the next decade to meet climate goals. We advocate for technology-inclusive climate policies, which are essential for deep decarbonisation and to reduce Europe’s vulnerability to volatile energy prices. We also provide expert insights on contemporary issues, including the EU’s Green Deal, national energy and climate plans, and Europe’s energy security.

The **Central and Eastern Europe Government Affairs Manager** will lead Carbon-Free Europe’s engagement with Romanian, Czech, and Polish governments, communicating CFE’s research and advising on strategies for each State to reach net-zero and increase the affordability, reliability, and security of their energy supply. They will work with CFE’s energy systems analysis team to identify pathways for each State to reach net-zero and support the revisions of their National Energy and Climate Plans. The Central and Eastern Europe Government Affairs Manager will follow State-level policy developments and continuously assess opportunities for CFE to conduct research and advocacy to support technology-inclusive policy. They will also represent CFE on a regular basis with key stakeholders, including expanding our collaboration with likeminded NGOs, academics, and experts in the region.

**Job requirements**

As the **Central and Eastern Europe Government Affairs Manager**, a typical day might include
- _Working with senior leadership to develop and implement CFE’s policy agenda in Central and Eastern Europe_
- _Establishing and maintaining relationships with State Representatives in Romania, Poland, and the Czech Republic;_
- _Identifying and collaborating with local NGOs and experts to support policies that ensure the innovation and deployment of a diversity of clean energy technologies;_
- _Collaborating with the Communications team to identify relevant areas for local media coverage;_
- _Collaborating with our energy systems modelling team to create original research, and interpreting CFE analysis to develop State-specific policy recommendations and messaging;_
- _Collaborating with US colleagues to identify transatlantic opportunities;_
- _Serving as a spokesperson for our ideas to policymakers and those who influence them, including in the press and at regular high-profile public speaking engagements, on multifaceted issues;_
- _Performing other duties as assigned_

**This might be the job for you, if you**
- _Have at least 5 to 10 years of relevant experience on climate and energy policy or related topics_
- Have an ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally in English (Additional language competency is preferred)
- Are self-starting and able to work independently to identify opportunities
- _Have extensive knowledge of Central and Eastern European policy and politics_
- _Have worked with or for Central and Eastern European governments on clean energy policy_
- Committed to the mission of CFE and growing with the organization
