AnimalhealthEurope is the association representing manufacturers of animal medicines, vaccines and other animal health products in Europe. It is a not-for-profit body representing both corporate members and national animal health associations in Europe. It represents both innovators and generics alike, as well as large, medium-sized and small companies. AnimalhealthEurope's membership covers 90% of the European market for animal health products.

Our mission is to be the voice of the European animal medicines industry. Our aim is to highlight the importance of healthy pets and farm animals and to demonstrate the reliability and value of our solutions to society. By ensuring a ready availability of animal health products throughout Europe, we can help optimise health management, while contributing to the sustainability of food production and keeping the companion animals that share our homes free from disease.
Our Strategic Focus
Our work centres around three priority focus areas:
1. One Health – By protecting animal health we can help protect public health and our shared environment.
2. Innovation – By researching and developing new ways to prevent, manage and protect animal health we can support vets, farmers and other animal owners.
3. Sustainability – By making a wide range of tools available we can support more efficient agricultural practices, and help pets remain healthy members of our families, contributing to the general wellbeing of all of Europe's citizens.
What You'll Do
AnimalhealthEurope is looking for a motivated, engaged, and dedicated Director to head our Public Affairs department. Your main objective will be to position our Association with Brussels-based stakeholders (EU policymakers and regulators, trade associations, and civil society). You will directly report to the Secretary General of the Association.
You will contribute to the development of public policy strategies consistent with the priorities of the animal health industry (One Health, Sustainability & Innovation) and ensure successful execution of those strategies within the EU, supporting the Secretary General of the Association.
Primary Activities (include, but are not limited to):
1. Liaise and reach out to key stakeholders, connect with policymakers, build new partnerships and build regulatory intelligence.
2. Follow the European Parliament's activities (mainly environment committee and agricultural committee) and other European-based policy stakeholders to support AnimalhealthEurope in informing EU legislators and decision makers.
3. Take an active part in meetings organized by the European Commission.
4. Interact at a high level with EU stakeholders related to the animal health sector as well as non-directly related, for example, the plant health sector.
5. Develop public policy resources including position papers, briefing documents, memos, and talking points, to foster quality communication to both political and other stakeholder audiences.
6. Develop and execute public policy strategies on key areas of activities in coordination with our Public Affairs Committee (PAC) and the Secretary General.
7. Manage internal and external relations.
8. Manage internal communication: within the AnimalhealthEurope Secretariat and between members, including coordinating outreach actions with AnimalhealthEurope's national associations.
Required:
1. Excellent networking skills within relevant policy making institutions: Commission officials in key DGs; Members of the European Parliament and their advisers; Council and the member states' permanent representations; other key stakeholders (NGO, think tanks, animal-related trade associations, human health trade associations...).
2. Deep understanding of the EU institutions & national EU governments, its policies and processes, and general practice with policymakers.
3. Long-standing experience at EU level in environment & chemical related legislation (REACH).
4. Strategic solutions-oriented thinker with creative skills and the ability to rapidly assimilate various aspects of an issue.
5. Ability to lead cross-functional projects, coordinate diverse input and work in a matrix-based association.
6. Self-motivated and able to work independently.
7. Able to take ownership of and drive projects forward to ensure timely completion.
8. Proven track record of prioritisation, organisation, and time management.
Education:
University degree required, e.g., agronomy, political science, law, veterinary medicine.
Skills:
1. Language skills: English as working language, other EU languages are a clear advantage.
2. Interpersonal skills: collaborative, inclusive style; team player; listening skills; multicultural mindset; ability to engage openly and positively with industry critics as appropriate; strong coordination and communication skills.
Experience:
1. Minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior public policy role in Europe, some of which preferably already as a Director.
2. Minimum 10 years professional experience.
