Policy and Advocacy Officer EU Temporary, Full-time · Brüssel

Your mission

  • Analyse and observe legislative procedures, monitor EU policy & relevant actors
  • Establish contacts in institutions of the EU and member states as well as in civil society that facilitate the adaption of the organisation's advocacy goals
  • Coordinate and take part in already existing networks
  • Inform about relevant policy developments and identify new opportunities
  • Provide strategic guidance for Team Lead and C-Level on policy positions
  • Draft updates, briefing notes, position papers and talking points for meetings, speeches and workshops
  • Support in organisation of events, public relations and campaigns
  • Represent the organisation at conferences, events and in meetings
  • Assist with identification of funding opportunities on EU Level and contribute to applications that are strongly related to the position
  • Distribute policy positions to relevant actors

Your profile

  • A master's degree (or a combination of a Bachelor's degree and relevant experience) preferably in european law, economics or political sciences
  • Your place of residence is in Brussels (Belgium) or the surrounding area
  • You have at least 2 years of working experience in the world of EU politics
  • You speak and write English fluently; German language skills are required or the willingness to learn German
  • You have proven knowledge on EU decision-making processes
  • You already bring along relevant contacts in EU institutions and partner organisations
  • You have strong coordination skills and the ability to work remotely with high level of autonomy and selforganization
  • You are familiar with the use of various digital tools for organisation and communication and feel confident using the MS Office package
  • You are a politically minded person and want to take a stand against digital violence
  • You value our diverse society and have the will to develop yourself further, change your perspective and learn new things

About us

Digital violence is a social challenge. People who experience digital violence are often alone. In most cases, both the personal environment and the authorities are overwhelmed when people are massively attacked online. The platforms rarely take responsibility either. We want to change this - preferably with you at our side. 

What HateAid does 
 
HateAid is a non-profit organisation that has been campaigning for human rights in the digital space since 2018. All those affected who do not spread digital violence themselves can turn to HateAid for counselling. In selected cases, we also support those affected in enforcing their legal claims.   

We see digital violence as a major threat to democracy. That is why we want to sustainably improve the basic conditions for people who experience digital violence, for example through changes in criminal and civil law or in consumer protection. To this end, we are in regular dialogue with politicians, law enforcement agencies and platform operators and publish position papers and statements. We use campaigns, activities and media work to address the issue of digital violence to a broad public.
