Lead Mobile Engineer

We are looking for a Lead Mobile Engineer to join a product team in Brussels and take a leading role in the evolution of its mobile applications.

This is not simply a Flutter development position.

We are looking for an experienced mobile engineer first, someone who has built and shipped mobile products, understands the challenges of mobile architecture and can make sound technical decisions across native, cross-platform or multiplatform environments.

Flutter is at the core of the current mobile stack, so hands-on professional experience with Flutter is required. However, we are equally interested in engineers with a strong background in native mobile development, React Native, Kotlin Multiplatform or other mobile ecosystems who have successfully worked with Flutter.

As Lead Mobile Engineer, you will help define the technical direction of the mobile applications while remaining actively involved in development.

You will work closely with the rest of the engineering team to build reliable, maintainable and scalable products.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Defining and evolving the mobile architecture
• Making technical decisions around application structure, performance and scalability
• Developing and improving Flutter applications
• Maintaining high standards for code quality, testing and engineering practices
• Reviewing code and supporting other engineers through mentoring and technical guidance
• Contributing to CI/CD and the overall delivery process
• Collaborating with backend and product teams on technical design and implementation
• Identifying technical debt and helping define pragmatic solutions
• Contributing to discussions around security, observability and application performance
• Remaining hands-on and close to the code

You have solid professional experience building mobile applications and have already taken significant technical ownership within a team.

You do not necessarily need to have spent your entire career working with Flutter. What matters most is having strong mobile engineering fundamentals and enough Flutter experience to lead technical decisions confidently.

Ideally, you bring:

• Strong professional experience in mobile software engineering
• Hands-on professional experience with Flutter and Dart
• Previous experience with native, cross-platform or multiplatform mobile development
• A strong understanding of mobile architecture and software design principles
• Experience making architectural and technical decisions on production applications
• Experience with code reviews, mentoring or technical leadership
• A pragmatic approach to engineering and technical debt
• Good understanding of CI/CD and modern software delivery practices
• Awareness of performance, scalability, observability and application security
• The ability and willingness to remain hands-on as a developer

Experience with technologies such as Kotlin, Swift, React Native or Kotlin Multiplatform is highly relevant.

The current environment includes:

• Mobile: Flutter / Dart
• Backend: TypeScript and FastAPI
• Cloud: Google Cloud Platform
• CI/CD and modern cloud-based development practices

You are not expected to be a backend or cloud specialist, but you should be comfortable collaborating across these areas and understanding how they interact with the mobile product.

English is required.

You should be comfortable communicating professionally in English in technical discussions, documentation and day-to-day collaboration.

French is a strong advantage, as a significant part of the team is French-speaking.

This is a Brussels-based position with regular collaboration from the office.

For this search, we are focusing on candidates who are already based in Belgium and able to work regularly from the Brussels office. This position is therefore best suited to someone who is already established in Belgium rather than someone looking for an international relocation opportunity.

The title says Lead Mobile Engineer for a reason.

We are not looking for someone whose expertise stops at a specific framework.

We are looking for someone who understands mobile engineering broadly, can challenge technical decisions, bring structure to an evolving environment and help raise the engineering standard of the team while continuing to build products themselves.
