**Introduction**

The GERB project has been running continuously since the early 2000’s and is now entering its final phase. This will be a period of intensive (re)-processing, with a focus on validation and data presentation. To streamline the existing processes and develop the new tools that are needed, we are looking for a person with a strong background in programming, who would seamlessly integrate in the team and support our activities.

Your experience may also be called upon to support scientists working in related projects in the remote sensing team.

**Job description**

In particular, for the GERB project, you will assist in the development of the operational processing. You will
- implement new features (e.g., netCDF output format, OPeNDAP access to the data)
- automate the deployment, operation, and monitoring of the processing
- maintain internal and user documentation
- develop user support material (e.g., Jupyter notebooks)
- develop new products (e.g., monthly averages)
- develop validation tools
- communicate about your work in (international) team meetings, conferences, and publications

In general, for the remote sensing team, you will
- assist other scientists with debugging and troubleshooting
- help with code reviews
- design and develop new tools

**Your profile**

You are either a scientist with a passion for programming, or a programmer with a passion for science. You take pride in the quality of the software you write.

The required degree is a master in science, engineering, or computer science. Prior experience in remote sensing is not required.
- You can demonstrate experience with:
- a scientific, compiled programming language (C is preferred),
- a data processing and visualization language (Python is preferred),
- developing (scientific) software projects, and
- working in the Linux environment
- You are able to, and you enjoy helping others with programming tasks
- You are able to understand, and express yourself in, spoken and written English

If you obtained your master's degree outside the Benelux, you must also have a level equivalence recognition for your degree of Flanders (NARIC) or Wallonia (CFWB).

**We offer**
- A full-time contract at the level SW1 of the Federal Belgian Scientific career for 2 years at the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium in Uccle
- Reimbursement of home-work commute by public transport
- Possibility of partial teleworking

**Procedure**
