We are looking for a Legal Counsel to support our Legal & Contracts Department based in Wavre, Belgium.
The key individual will be responsible for providing legal advice and assisting with institutional (ESA, ESOC, ESTEC, etc) and commercial contracts, corporate and regulatory. The role is well supported internally by legally trained team members and with external counsel, if needed. In this role you must bring experience from dealing with a range of commercial legal issues, be able to triage matters effectively, and be able to efficiently address new issues as they arise.
This is a varied role with responsibility and autonomy in an international legal team working in space, cybersecurity and defence sectors. This role will be based in our Wavre office within our flexible working policy.
**Tasks and Activities**:
The scope of work will include:
- Providing in-house legal support to internal stakeholders on legal matters.
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and other legal documents with institutional and commercial customers (such as teaming agreements, subcontractor agreements, license agreements, LOI, MoU, NDA).
- Participating in the bid process, reviewing the associated legal documents and providing comments and questions to the Bid Manager.
- Providing advice on corporate, regulatory, property, governance and procurement matters.
- Creating, maintaining, organizing and managing appropriately all files regarding ongoing matters.
- Participating in Legal & Contracts Department projects and tasks.
- Contributing to the standardisation of legal documentation (agreements, general terms and conditions, contract database etc.).
**Skills and Experience**:
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- A Master’s degree in Law.
- A minimum of three years of working experience in a law firm, EU institution or a multinational company (ideally active in the space sector).
- Highly organized with a detail and result-oriented attitude.
- Ability to identify and mitigate legal risks and develop workable business solutions.
- Ability to take direction and work independently with little (or no) supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong ethics and teamwork skills.
- Fluent in written and spoken French/Dutch and English.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- A working knowledge of another language.
