Chemicals Legislation Manager

Reporting to the Director REACH and Chemicals Policy, you will be responsible for driving, coordinating and managing Cefic’s activities related to new developments on chemical policies & regulations, with a strong focus on the revision of the EU REACH Regulation. The upcoming revision of the EU REACH regulation will re-define the overarching regulatory framework for chemicals for the next decades and contribute to making the EU a frontrunner on safe and sustainable chemicals.

With the support of Cefic experts, members, -staffed issue teams and networks of expert (working groups), you are responsible for identifying key regulatory developments and for developing advocacy strategies and programs to address these developments, whilst considering legal, political and member companies’ boundaries.

You will:

- Develop Cefic’s response and position papers in specific fields of Chemical regulations relevant to the European chemicals industry, focusing on the planned REACH Revision.
- Advise the Director and provide input to the Chemicals Legislation Management Issue Team;
- Represent Cefic and the European Chemical industry in Expert Committees, and in the relevant external conferences and workshops attended by policy‐makers; contribute to the discussions with authorities representing the interests of the European Chemical Industry;
- Liaise with Cefic sector groups and other industry associations and stakeholders, including NGO’s and trade unions.
- Monitor and anticipate regulatory developments
- Advise members on relevant topics
- Engage in projects, data gathering or solution-development in support of advocacy strategies

Profiel
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or relevant equivalent experience
- A minimum of 5 years of experience within the chemical industry and/or European trade association;
- Proven understanding of the EU REACH regulation; understanding of other EU Chemicals legislation is an asset;
- Experience in regulatory and/or public affairs is a must; in-depth understanding of regulatory risk management measures and processes for chemicals is definitely an asset;
- Clear understanding of the functioning of European institutions;
- Good communication and (re)presentation skills; including the ability to translate technical information into layman language,
- Strong project manager, results oriented and able to work under pressure and to prioritise while managing multiple tasks
- Excellent English (written and spoken)
- A good team player who is able to work as well independently as in a multi-functional and multicultural team.
- Strong communication skills: ability to speak clearly and concisely in front of a group; ability to deliver well-organised, very enthusiastic and convincing presentations and ability to adapt style and language to audience.
- Excellent writing, networking and negotiation skills
- A curious personality, keen to learn and improve continuously.
- Pro-active with service and customer orientation
- Ready to travel (max. 10-20%).
- Prepared to live in Belgium (Brussels)
