Reporting to the Product Stewardship Director, you will be responsible for driving, coordinating and managing Cefic’s technical activities related to new regulatory developments on polymers, microplastics or nanomaterials.
With the support of Cefic colleagues and member company experts, you will be responsible for developing and steering technical strategy and/or programs to address new regulatory needs related to polymers, nanomaterials and microplastics under REACH whilst supporting the development of advocacy and communication strategies to deliver industry’s position towards the European and National Authorities.
Under the EU Green Deal, the European Commission plans a significant revision of REACH. The work of the next few years will shape EU chemicals policy for decades and contribute to making the EU a frontrunner on safe and sustainable chemicals. This position is a unique opportunity to devise a new regulatory approach to assess safety of polymers under REACH.
Are you inspired by these responsibilities?
You will:
- Monitor and anticipate regulatory developments
- Develop advocacy strategies, Cefic’s position papers and steer advocacy plans related to regulatory developments on nanomaterials, polymers and support the strategy on microplastics
- Steer and support the Cefic Nanomaterials Network of Experts and Polymer Issue Team
- Advise the Director and provide input to the Cefic Leadership Team and Program Councils
- Represent Cefic and the European Chemical industry in Expert Committees, and in the relevant external conferences and workshops attended by policymakers; contribute to the discussions with authorities representing the interests of the European Chemical Industry
- Support industry activities concerning intentionally produced Microplastics at a global level in the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) if needed
- Coordinate with Cefic Sector Groups, other industry associations and stakeholders
- Advise members on relevant information
- Engage in projects or data gathering to support advocacy strategies
Profiel
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or similar
- Proven experience in Polymer technology; technical knowledge of the polymer industry and plastic production is definite an asset
- A minimum of 5 years of experience within the chemical industry or authorities
- Understanding of the EU REACH and the functioning of European and international institutions are definite assests
- Excellent communication and (re)presentation skills, including the ability to translate technical information into layman language
- Strong project manager, results oriented and able to work under pressure and to prioritise while managing multiple tasks
- Demonstrated skills in presenting and fostering consensus at multiple management levels, internally and externally
- Ability to work independently and objectively
- Full professional proficiency in English (written and oral); additional European languages are a definite asset
- Able to work to tight deadlines; agility to adapt to changing circumstances
- Strategic and analytical thinker with service and customer orientation
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills
- A good team player, who is able to work as well independently as in a multi-functional and multicultural team
- Willingness to travel occasionally (max 10-20%)
- Prepared to live in Belgium (Brussels).
