(Senior) Programme Manager

We are looking for a highly motivated (Senior) Programme Manager to join our Circular Economy team and drive ECOS work towards robust policies and standards that move the têxtile sector away from its current linear business model. You will use your campaigning skills to convince decision-makers, standardisers and stakeholders of the urgent need to reduce the volume of têxtiles in circulation, increase the quality of têxtiles products on the market, and to bring the sector within planetary boundaries.

About ECOS: ECOS is an international NGO with a network of members and experts advocating for environmentally friendly technical standards, policies and laws. We ensure the environmental voice is heard when they are developed and drive change by providing expertise to policymakers and industry players, leading to the implementation of strong environmental principles. Our successes include securing a ban on new fossil fuel boilers, mainstreaming ecodesign, introducing universal chargers, and improving our right to repair. ECOS is headquartered in Brussels and has an exceptional team of over 35 staff supported by a network of over 50 technical experts and almost 60 member organisations.

Your main tasks will be to:
Policy & standards
- Shape and implement advocacy strategies to obtain ambitious policies and standards that drastically reduce the impact of products worldwide, with a special focus on the têxtile sector
- Produce impactful materials and strategies in response to targets and opportunities
- Represent ECOS in relevant meetings, such as meetings of standardisation organisations (CEN, ISO), European institutions, international for a, and workshops, conferences
- Select, manage, and oversee technical experts to assist our work

Engagement with ECOS networks
- Contribute to the work of our campaigns (such as Wardrobe Change), and collaborate with our members, other NGOs and relevant stakeholders
- Create impactful communications content for ECOS including articles, opinion pieces, and publications, in cooperation with the Communications Department
- Actively strengthen cooperation with ECOS networks including member organisations, potential new members, campaigns and any relevant stakeholders
- Ensure effective involvement of members and experts in ECOS activities

Project portfolio management
- (Help) shape a portfolio of grants & projects aligned with our strategy
- Manage and develop relationships with funder

Skills and experience required:

- University degree in environmental sciences, engineering, or relevant discipline. Alternatively, a degree in social sciences with qualifying professional qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience on environment-related topics
- Proven knowledge of product policy and/or têxtiles
- Good understanding of EU policy making processes
- Interest in technical work and/or standardisation processes
- Commitment to the values, vision and mission of environmental NGOs
- Strong analytical skills & ability to translate technical information into digestible information
- Excellent time and project management skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent writing, communication, networking and negotiation skills
- Fluent English, other languages an asset
