Junior Lab Technician

Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT) is an American company, part of the Danaher group. Our European activities are based in Heverlee, Belgium. IDT’s core business is the production of short DNA strands called oligonucleotides, which can be used for various purposes like diagnostic tests for breast cancer or AIDS, research to discover new drugs and producing safer and more plentiful agricultural products.

We are currently looking for a Junior Lab Technician to join IDT’s labs at our European facility in Heverlee during the early shift (6am-2.30pm). You will become part of our Chemical Processing department which is the heart of our production site upon which all fellow lab colleagues rely to start making IDT’s oligos.

As a Junior Lab Technician you and your colleagues are mainly responsible for ensuring all chemical reagent requests are executed, whether they are in larger tanks requiring the use of a bulk chemical dispensing system or in smaller amounts requiring manual mixing and/or filtering. You will also be responsible for the quality control on both raw incoming materials as on the in-house mixtures and formulations including, but not limited to, water content, identification, concentration and pH measurements. Every day consists of a variety of tasks and gives you the opportunity to plan your work the way it’s most efficient for yourself and the team.

**Responsibilities**:
Perform the chemical processing of all mixtures and formulations required for production.
Perform MQC on raw materials, all mixtures and formulations.
Oversee items which will expire in the near future in the facility and make the correct disposition decision for them.
Change waste containers and dispose of waste material.
Perform all necessary decontamination procedures.
Appropriately document all aspects of the performed processes.
Fill out all required checklists and perform verification for others when necessary.

Job Qualifications
Hold a high school or Bachelor’s degree in a chemistry related field or equivalent through experience.
Have excellent computer skills which includes knowledge of the Internet, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
Be able to be on feet a few hours at a time.
Possess the ability to adapt to changes in the process.
Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Be able to multi-task.
Be able to interact in a professional manner with customers, employees and all levels of management.
Be able to work in a group or independently.
Be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Dutch is a big bonus.
Be able to lift 20kg and occasionally up to 50kg.
