**(Senior) Scientist Analytical Chemistry - Mass spectrometry (Temporary role)**:
Within Johnson and Johnson Innovative medicine, we are recruiting a (Senior) Scientist Analytical chemistry - Mass spectrometry.

The (Senior) Scientist will join the Advanced Material Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group within AD. AMCI is an international and diverse multidisciplinary team of scientists leading advanced characterization and mechanistical understanding of our drug substances and drug products. We are also leading analytical investigations for commercial and R&D portfolio.

Within AMCI, the Advanced Molecular Analysis (AMA) team is a group of analytical centers of excellence in structure elucidation (by high-resolution Mass Spectrometry and NMR), trace organic analysis, excipient & polymer characterization, and oligonucleotide & peptide analytics.

We are currently seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Analytical Chemist, specialized in mass spectrometry to join our AMA team and contribute to our ongoing efforts in, mainly, MS-based structure elucidation and quantification of trace-level organic impurities in various matrices and pharmaceutical products. For this laboratory-based position, you will lead the identification efforts for process synthesis impurities and degradation products to support our R&D portfolio. You might also be involved in the implementation of analytical test methods for nitrosamine detection, for which your analytical and mass spectrometry background will be required. The position is based in Antwerp (Beerse), Belgium.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide high-quality Mass Spectrometric support for a variety of synthetic molecule products (also including peptides, oligonucleotides, etc.) in the J&J portfolio.
- Participate in supporting diverse investigations on the J&J development and commercial portfolio using cutting-edge high-resolution mass spectrometers. And other analytical equipment.
- Work independently with a high level of productivity to solve challenging analytical problems, including the ability to juggle competing priorities.
- Present data and reports on project status at individual, group, and departmental meetings.
- Provide scientific direction and serve as a scientific expert for diverse Mass Spectrometry-related activities.
- Drive continuous improvement of the mass spectrometry technology platform and stay at the forefront of MS advances, including related technology (e.g., separation technology, ion mobility).
- Contribute to an external network with recognized thought leaders in the MS field and with CRO’s.

**Qualifications**:

- A PhD in (Analytical) chemistry, biochemistry or related field, OR a master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field with 7 years of relevant experience is required.
- Practical experience with High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry is required.
- Experience with Mass Spectrometry-based structure elucidation of small molecules is highly desirable.
- Expertise in developing analytical test methods for the quantification of trace-level organic impurities, by means of mass spectrometry, is an asset.
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment is considered an advantage.
- Strong track record of scientific contributions including peer reviewed publications, patents, or presentations at major (inter)national meetings is considered a plus.
- Excellent scientific and critical thinking skills, and good oral and written communication skills, in English, is required.
