**1. SUMMARY**
The Executive Management (EM) Division has the lead role in the overall management of the NATO HQ. The EM Division covers the following directorates: HQ Support and Transformation (HQST), Human Resources (HR), Information. Communications, and Technology Management (ICTM), and Budget, Planning and Analysis (BPA).
Within HQST, the Translation Service (TS) provides translations day-to-day for the Secretary General, the Council, other NATO committees and some 1,200 civil and military members of the International Staff (IS).
The role of the Senior Linguist, Translation, is to support the Council, its subordinate committees and the International Staff in the consultation process. Under the direction of the Head, Translation Service, s/he translates into her/his native language, Russian, documents drafted in English. S/he works with broad linguistic autonomy, within priority/urgency constraints.
**2. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**
**ESSENTIAL**The incumbent must:
- have successfully completed recognised university-level training in translation or hold a degree in a relevant discipline from an institution of recognised standing and complemented by demonstrated translation capabilities;
- possess at least 5 years’ experience in translation;
- demonstrate Proficiency (‘VI’) level Russian as her/his native language, and an Advanced (‘V’) knowledge of English (excellent understanding and the ability to express himself/herself clearly orally and in writing);
- have demonstrated the ability to provide general and technical translations requiring little or no revision;
- have demonstrated the ability to judge what assistance to seek (re-reading, revision, terminological or documentary support, or consultation with experts) if required for a given piece of work;
- have broad general knowledge and knowledge of the major topical issues for NATO;
- be able to work under pressure, striking the best possible balance between quality and speed;
- have the very good communication skills necessitated by contact with customers and other stakeholders;
- be able to effectively use the IT tools available in the Service;
- be prepared to work outside normal office hours when workload or urgent work so requires.
**DESIRABLE**The following would be considered an advantage:
- professional experience in interpretation, working from English into Russian
- Ukrainian as another working language;
- knowledge of specialised fields related to the topics discussed at NATO;
- familiarity with the workings, activities and jargon of NATO;
- prior experience working in an international environment, particularly an intergovernmental body.
**3. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES**
**Stakeholder Management**Establish and maintain continuous contact with customers, authors, specialists or readers in order to process demand effectively, meeting as fully as possible the needs and expectations of customers and other addressees of translations.
**Knowledge Management**Help to enrich the Service's terminological and documentary resources by pooling relevant information gathered and the results of research carried out personally; in particular, help to create and update records in the Service's terminology database and feed the Russian translation memory.
**Information Management**Contribute actively to good circulation of information and ideas within the team and the Service.
Perform any other related duty as assigned.
**4. INTERRELATIONSHIPS**The incumbent reports to the Head of the Translation Service. S/he works with broad linguistic autonomy, under the general supervision of the Head of English and non-NATO languages. S/he may also be called upon to collaborate with linguists (interpreters, terminologists, documentalists or translators) from other services and must be prepared to work closely with those for whom her/his team provides translations.

**6. **CONTRACT
**Contract to be offered to the successful applicant (if non-seconded): Definite duration contract of three years’ duration; possibility of an indefinite duration contract thereafter **.
Contract clause applicable:
Serving staff will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Régulations.
