Freelance Senior Data EngineerLocation: Brussels (Hybrid – 2 days per week on-site)Contract: Long-term freelance engagementRate: Competitive market rateSector: Banking (sector-leading client)Language - English and Flemish speaking requiredOverviewWe are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join one of our sector-leading banking clients on a long-term freelance basis. This role sits within a mature data environment and will play a key part in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data solutions that support critical business and regulatory use cases.The role is hybrid, with 2 days per week on-site in Brussels and the remainder remote.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines and data platformsWork closely with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality data solutionsDevelop and optimize ETL/ELT processes for large-scale datasetsEnsure data quality, reliability, performance, and security in line with banking standardsContribute to best practices around data engineering, automation, and CI/CDSupport data governance, lineage, and documentation requirementsTroubleshoot and resolve complex data issues in production environmentsRequired Skills & ExperienceProven experience as a Senior Data Engineer in complex, enterprise environmentsStrong hands-on experience with:SQL and Python (or similar data-focused languages)Data warehousing and data lake architecturesETL/ELT frameworks and pipeline orchestration toolsExperience working in banking or financial services environments (strongly preferred)Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)Experience with big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Databricks, Kafka) is a strong plusStrong communication skills and ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersNice to HaveExperience with regulatory or risk-related data use casesKnowledge of data governance and security best practicesPrevious long-term freelance engagements in enterprise organisationsContract DetailsStart: ASAP Location: Brussels (2 days on-site per week)Duration: Long-termRate: Competitive, aligned with senior market rates
