Renewable Energy Project – Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)Location: Antwerp, Belgium Contract Type: Freelance or Permanent Work Mode: On‐site with hybrid flexibility (optional) Role OverviewThe Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer will play a key role in the design, installation, integration, and commissioning of a large scale renewable energy project incorporating Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). You will ensure that all electrical and instrumentation systems are engineered to the highest technical, safety, and regulatory standards, supporting the project's mission to deliver reliable, sustainable energy infrastructure in the Antwerp region.Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Develop and review electrical designs for LV/MV distribution, switchgear, transformers, and protection systemsSupport integration of BESS components including PCS, inverters, battery racks, HVAC, and fire suppression systemsPerform load flow, short‐circuit, and protection coordination studiesEnsure compliance with Belgian AREI/REG regulations and IEC standardsPrepare technical specifications, single‐line diagrams, cable schedules, and installation drawingsOversee electrical installation activities and ensure quality control on siteInstrumentationDesign and specify instrumentation for monitoring, control, and safety systems (temperature, pressure, gas detection, etc.)Support SCADA/PLC integration for BESS monitoring and controlDevelop I/O lists, loop diagrams, and instrumentation datasheetsEnsure proper calibration, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation devicesCoordinate with automation engineers for system integration and FAT/SAT activitiesProject Execution & CoordinationCollaborate with EPC contractors, suppliers, and internal engineering teamsParticipate in HAZOP, design reviews, and risk assessmentsProvide technical support during procurement, vendor selection, and equipment evaluationConduct site inspections, troubleshoot issues, and support commissioning and handoverPrepare progress reports, documentation, and as‐built recordsTechnical Skills & ExperienceStrong knowledge of LV/MV electrical systems, protection, grounding, and cable sizingExperience with BESS technologies (inverters, PCS, EMS, battery modules)Familiarity with renewable energy systems (solar, wind, grid‐connected assets)Proficiency with instrumentation design and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP)Experience with SCADA/PLC systems and integrationUnderstanding of Belgian and EU electrical standards (AREI/REG, IEC)Competence with engineering tools (EPLAN, AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar) Education & QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering orBachelor's or Master's degree in Electromechanical EngineeringAdditional certifications (VCA, ATEX, AREI, or similar) are strong assetsIf you are interested please Apply or reach out to Seven.Famurewa@g2recruitment.com
