Compassion in World Farming International is a global movement transforming the future of food and farming. Help bring our mission to life in Brussels through communications that inspire action for farm animals.
EU Communications Officer
Role type: Full time; Permanent
Location: EU Office, Brussels (hybrid flexible working available, with at least 2 days in the office per week)
Salary: €56,000 - €62,000 gross per annum (depending upon skills and experience), inclusive of 13th month salary and holiday pay
About the role
As our EU Communications Officer, you’ll use your words, ideas and relationship-building skills to help advance our mission to end factory farming. Based in Brussels and reporting to the Head of CIWF EU, you’ll bring our EU work to life through engaging content, media outreach and support for our global campaigns.
Working closely with our Brussels colleagues and HQ communications and campaigns teams, you’ll turn important food and farming issues into clear, compelling stories.
This is a varied, hands-on role, where you’ll be responsible for:
- Communications and content - Writing press releases, web news and social media posts, managing EU website content and social channels and creating visual materials that engage audiences and support our campaigns.
- Media and stakeholder engagement - Building relationships with Brussels-based journalists and stakeholders, raising the profile of our EU work and keeping our media contacts database up to date.
- Coordination and events - Helping organise in-person and virtual events, and support effective collaboration between our EU office, HQ and colleagues in Member States.
- Administration and office support - Taking ownership of practical administrative, operational and office management tasks, using our systems and supporting specific projects as needed.
About you
To succeed as our EU Communications Officer, you’ll need strong experience of political communications in Brussels that supports change with governments or intergovernmental institutions, ideally alongside experience in the non-profit sector. You’ll enjoy adapting your message to different audiences, and have a genuine interest in farm animal welfare, food and environmental issues.
You’ll need to be a thoughtful, collaborative colleague who treats people with dignity and respect, works sensitively across cultures and takes pride in high ethical standards. Comfortable working independently as well as with others, you’ll balance communications projects with practical office tasks and follow through on your commitments.
Skills and experience you’ll need to bring as our EU Communications Officer:
- Fluent English, excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong news sense, and experience creating effective communications materials for a range of audiences, particularly for the Brussels bubble.
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritise your workload, use your initiative and take responsibility for projects and operational tasks.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and internet tools, plus experience with, or a willingness to learn, Canva, InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro.
Previous experience with Brussels media or institutions, journalist contacts, campaigning knowledge and insight into EU political processes is essential. Event or webinar coordination, working in international teams, and additional European languages would be welcome.
If you don’t meet every requirement but believe you could thrive in this role, we encourage you to apply.

About Compassion
Compassion in World Farming International is a leading global organisation working to end factory farming. Founded in 1967 by British farmer Peter Roberts, we’ve spent over 50 years driving change, successfully campaigning to ban cruel practices such as barren battery cages, veal crates, and sow stalls across the UK and Europe.
Our work combines advocacy, campaigning, and collaboration with policymakers and businesses to promote animal welfare and sustainable food systems. We envision a future where animals are treated with compassion, and farming supports both people and the planet.
