The Environment team is part of the HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, Quality) Department, where it advises and assists the operational units with environmental issues and problems. It also helps to develop the company's environmental policy, communicates it and ensures that it is implemented across the various departments. Presence on the ground is vital for this. Compliance with the principles of sustainable development is at the heart of everything the Environment team does.
The HSEQ Department at our head office in Brussels is looking for an Environment Engineer (m/f/x).
Job purpose
As an Environment Engineer, you will ensure that our activities are carried out in an environmentally respectful, responsible and realistic manner, in accordance with the legal framework and taking into account our stakeholders and green ambitions.
Your responsibilities
You will provide actors on the ground (e.g. project managers, design engineers, operators) with advice and support on environmental matters
You will carry out periodic environmental assessments of facilities, ensuring that they comply with the relevant environmental legislation, the conditions in the permits and the environmental conditions (analysis, action plan, implementation)
You will be responsible for organising and monitoring environmental studies (soil analyses, noise measurements, energy audits, atmospheric emission measurements)
You will perform a thorough review of environmental impact assessments for pipeline installation projects and ensure consistency across the various project files
You will be involved in drawing up environmental reports for all our stakeholders: the authorities, line management, Fluxys employees and the general public (e.g. Integraal Milieujaarverslag [integrated annual environmental report for Flanders], Enquête intégrée [integrated environmental survey for Wallonia], Emissions Trading Scheme report, environmental coordinator's annual report)
You will monitor environmental legislation, assess the impact of legislative changes on our business and inform internal stakeholders about these changes
You will help to develop new initiatives to minimise the carbon footprint of our activities
You will help to implement and operate the environment and energy management system
You will occasionally take part in Belgian and international working groups dealing with environmental issue
About you
You hold a master's degree in civil or industrial engineering, bioengineering or a scientific field (environmental management, or equivalent experience)
You hold an environmental coordinator certificate (Milieucoördinator level A accordingly with VLAREM II) or are willing to obtain this quickly
You have five years' practical experience in environmental issues in industry and are motivated by sustainable development
You can work independently and are able to analyse and structure the questions you are asked and come up with proposals for solutions
You are comfortable handling multiple projects simultaneously and switching from one to another depending on priorities
You are good at interacting with people at all levels by communicating with clarity and impact, and are comfortable working in a varied and demanding environment
You are fluent in both French and Dutch and have a good knowledge of English
