Employment Type: Full-Time Reporting to: Directly to CEO About Plug Impact LimitedPlug Impact Limited is building an all-in-one SaaS platform that connects nonprofits, businesses, social enterprises and individual donors to support collaboration, giving and measurable social impact. The platform brings together multiple stakeholders and digital workflows, including merchant and donor interactions, charitable giving, platform data flows and supporting transaction-related processes. Plug Impact is continuing to research and develop its technology architecture and software capabilities to create a more scalable, secure and effective platform. Role PurposeAs a Full-stack Software Engineer (R&D), you will contribute to the research, design, prototyping and technical validation of Plug Impact's SaaS platform. The role will focus primarily on resolving technical challenges and iterative development across the applications, backend services, APIs, data models and cloud architecture. You will work closely with the company's management and product/design collaborators to convert product objectives into technical approaches, validate different solutions and develop the R&D outputs into working platform components. Core R&D Responsibilities
• Conduct technical investigation into alternative software architectures, implementation approaches and system designs for new functions of Plug Impact's platform.
• Design and build prototypes and proof-of-concept components across web, mobile, backend and API layers to validate technical approaches before broader implementation.
• Investigate and evaluate approaches for improving the scalability, reliability, security and performance of the platform, particularly where multiple user groups, transaction-related workflows and external services interact.
• Develop and validate frontend and backend components.
• Research and validate data-model and database approaches to support platform requirements, system performance and reliable data handling.
• Investigate and test integration approaches for third-party services where these form part of the platform capabilities.
• Define technical test criteria, compare alternative approaches, analyse results and document the technical reasoning behind design decisions.
• Develop new platform components based on validated findings and technical experiments.
• Maintain clear technical records covering prototypes, experiments, test results, architectural decisions, limitations and follow-up development work.
• Collaborate with management and designers to translate product objectives into clearly defined technical problems, hypotheses, R&D tasks and validation plans. Supporting Engineering ResponsibilitiesThe following activities may be required to support the R&D work, but should not be the primary purpose of the role:
• Maintain code produced through the R&D process.
• Source control, collaboration and CI/CD workflows.
• Deploy and test R&D outputs in appropriate environments.
• Package and dependency management.
• Troubleshoot technical issues arising from prototypes and platform components.
• Participate in code review, documentation and engineering quality practices.
• Support transition of successfully validated R&D outputs into production use. Technical EnvironmentThe role may work with the following technologies:

• Authentication and authorisation technologies such as JWT and OAuth Experience with TypeScript, GraphQL, Firebase, WebSockets, Docker or Kubernetes would be useful but is not essential. What We’re Looking For
• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering or another relevant STEM-related discipline.
• Fresh graduates are welcome to apply; candidates with approximately 1–3 years of relevant software-development experience are also suitable.
• Hands-on experience with full-stack software development, preferably including React.js, React Native, Node.js, databases and cloud services.
• Understanding of API development, system integration and modern software architecture.
• Ability to investigate technical problems systematically, compare alternative approaches and document findings.
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with product, design and business stakeholders while maintaining a technical and experimental approach to development.
• Interest in technology for social impact.
