Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Sommelier role based at Zuma in Hong Kong SAR. The Sommelier will curate and manage the wine program, including selecting wines that complement Zuma’s contemporary Japanese cuisine and maintaining accurate inventory and cellar organization. The role involves guiding guests through the wine list, recommending pairings for dishes, and providing engaging, informed table-side wine service. The Sommelier will support wine sales by training front-of-house team members, hosting tastings, and promoting featured selections and pairing menus. The individual will collaborate closely with the bar, kitchen, and management teams to ensure a cohesive beverage offering and a refined guest experience aligned with Zuma’s brand standards.
Qualifications
Strong sommelier and wine pairing skills, with the ability to match wines thoughtfully to contemporary Japanese cuisine.
Experience in wine sales and beverage upselling within a premium or fine-dining environment.
Solid background in food & beverage operations, including service standards, menu knowledge, and guest engagement.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain wine concepts clearly and interact confidently with a diverse, international clientele.
Relevant sommelier certification (e.g., WSET ) or equivalent professional training is highly beneficial.
Prior experience in luxury hospitality or high-end restaurants, preferably in an international or Asian dining context.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and to thrive in a fast-paced service environment.
Strong organizational skills for cellar management, inventory control, and accurate record-keeping.
