The Information Technology Services Office (ITSO) is responsible for developing and managing the University's IT infrastructure and information systems. We champion the effective and innovative uses of IT to support learning, research, and administrative activities. The Enterprise Architecture and Technology team in ITSO manages a broad range of advanced technologies including public and private clouds, identity and access management, server and desktop environments, application platforms, AI technology, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters for research computation.
We are looking for skilled IT professionals to join the HPC group within the Enterprise Architecture and Technology team. The appointee is responsible for system administration and day-to-day operation support of the HPC clusters.
Core
Responsibilities:
• Deploying, configuring, and maintaining server nodes, operating systems and cluster management software.
• Managing job queueing system and resource manager in a cluster environment.
• Installing, updating, and troubleshooting scientific applications, compilers, MPI libraries, and containerized environments.
• Managing high-speed ethernet drivers and parallel file system clients on cluster nodes, troubleshooting network and client-side I/O performance bottlenecks, and coordinating with the network and storage infrastructure team.
• Handling user accounts, access permissions, security audits and firewall configurations.
• Providing consultancy support to students and researchers on the use of HPC cluster.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems or equivalent with at least five years of working experience.
• Sound knowledge of Linux system administration and related tools.
• Relevant experience in an HPC or Linux cluster environment, with knowledge of cluster management software, job scheduling and resource management systems, scientific applications, compilers, MPI libraries and container technologies, would be a definite advantage.
• Knowledge of high-speed networking, parallel file systems, access control, security, firewalls and performance troubleshooting in Linux or cluster environments.
• Knowledge of NVIDIA GPU architecture, software and management tools; familiarity with mainland Chinese GPU models and their software ecosystems would be an additional advantage.
• Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese.
• Good analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. Able to work under pressure and have good teamwork with self-initiative attitude. Applicants with less relevant experience but interested in developing the skillset in research computing may be considered for the position of Associate IT Specialist. (Duration: 2 years, renewable) Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.
