We’re hiring: EU Policy Manager – Media & Digital Affairs
News Media Europe is the voice of the European news media sector, representing more than 2,700 news brands across print, digital, radio and television. We advocate for the conditions that allow independent journalism and a diverse, sustainable news media sector to thrive.
This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of European policy, technology, media and democracy at a particularly important moment for our industry.
The role
As EU Policy Manager, you will help shape and deliver News Media Europe’s advocacy towards the EU institutions. You will take responsibility for a portfolio covering areas such as:
Artificial intelligence, copyright and the protection of publishers’ content
Competition policy and the relationship between publishers and digital platforms
EU digital regulation, including data and advertising policy
Media freedom, pluralism and editorial independence
The economic sustainability and digital transformation of news media
Working closely with the Executive Director, team members and national news media associations, you will translate complex developments into clear positions and effective advocacy.
Your responsibilities will include:
Monitoring and analysing relevant EU legislative and policy developments
Drafting position papers, consultation responses, briefings and amendments
Developing advocacy strategies and representing News Media Europe in meetings with EU policymakers
Building constructive relationships with the European institutions, industry partners and civil-society organisations
Coordinating member working groups and turning different national perspectives into strong common positions
Representing the association at meetings and coalition activities
Contributing to external communications, events and the overall visibility of News Media Europe
Who we are looking for
You are a confident EU public-affairs professional who can combine strong analysis with practical advocacy. You enjoy mastering complex files, writing persuasively and developing relationships across institutions and organisations.
Ideally, you bring:
Approximately 4–6 years of relevant Brussels-based experience in EU public affairs, policymaking, an association, an EU institution, consultancy or a related environment
A strong working knowledge of the EU institutions and legislative process
Experience managing policy files and developing advocacy positions
Excellent spoken and written English
The ability to explain complex policy issues clearly and concisely
Sound judgement, political awareness and a collaborative working style
The confidence to work autonomously and take ownership in a small, dynamic team
Knowledge of media policy, digital regulation, competition, copyright and artificial intelligence would be a strong advantage.
