Quaestor is looking for a motivated private equity fund controller to join our team. As a private equity controller, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of various private equity funds, working closely with a partner and a small team of investment professionals.

As a Fund Controller, you are responsible for the administrative, operational, financial, and accounting oversight of an existing investment portfolio of private equity AICBs (Alternative Investment Companies for Collective Investment). You monitor the quality and accuracy of financial reporting, perform checks on valuations and fund movements, and coordinate collaboration with internal and external service providers.

Your responsibilities will include, among other things:

  • Financial and accounting oversight of private equity investments and fund structures, including master and feeder funds;
  • Analyzing and reviewing periodic fund reports, financial statements, audit files, and other financial data;
  • Tracking and reconciling subscriptions, purchases, transfers, distributions of shares, capital calls, and other cash flows within the various funds;
  • Analyzing and monitoring actual costs and variances, with a particular focus on fund and management expenses. Calculating and verifying the annual expense figures for the various funds;
  • The calculation and verification of the net asset value (NAV) of each AICB based on fair value;
  • Developing, monitoring, and analyzing financial, operational, risk, and performance KPIs. Conducting periodic reviews of the existing investment portfolio and reporting on any identified discrepancies;
  • Monitoring financial and contractual obligations set forth in fund documents, side letters, and covenants;
  • Overseeing the preparation of the annual financial statements, as well as the organization and administrative follow-up of general meetings and board of directors meetings;
  • Preparing for and coordinating external audits and responding to questions from accountants and auditors;
  • Preparing and supporting financial and operational reporting (FSMA, CRS, FATCA, etc.);
  • Coordination between the paying agent, custodian, fund accountant, auditor, and other external service providers;
  • The design and maintenance of the private equity portal, with a focus on accurate and timely financial information.

You proactively identify discrepancies, accounting or operational risks, and areas for improvement. You contribute to the further standardization, automation, and strengthening of the financial control environment.

Your profile

  • You have a master’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field;
  • You have a thorough knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, and financial statements;
  • Experience with private equity funds, alternative investment funds, fund accounting, or financial control is a definite asset;
  • You are able to independently analyze and interpret balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and other financial reports;
  • You have strong analytical skills and work with precision, in a structured manner, and with a focus on quality control;
  • You have very good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and can efficiently process and analyze large amounts of financial data;
  • You can communicate professionally in Dutch and English;
  • You work proactively and independently, but also function well as part of a team;
  • You think pragmatically and develop concrete solutions to accounting, financial, and operational issues.

Useful Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of Power BI and experience with the automation or visualization of financial reports;
  • Knowledge of private equity and related cash flows, including capital calls, distributions, and carried interest;
  • Knowledge of fund management, including order execution, valuation, and distribution policies;
  • Experience with audit processes and internal control measures.
