About the Role
As a System Designer – Onboard Signaling, you will play a key role in adapting and specifying signaling systems, including ERTMS/ETCS and legacy technologies. Working on strategic, long-term railway projects, you will translate customer needs into structured system requirements and ensure that the proposed solution meets the expected safety, reliability, and performance standards. You will analyze customer requirements, identify gaps between project needs and existing generic solutions, produce system specifications, and contribute to the configuration, integration, and testing of the adapted solution.
Key Responsibilities
Requirements Analysis and System Adaptation
- Analyze customer documentation, including technical specifications and functional requirements.
- Identify and formalize gaps between customer requirements and existing generic solutions.
- Collaborate with the Development Center to define the adaptations required to address these gaps.
- Support the validation and implementation of proposed adaptations by software development teams.
- Maintain full requirements traceability throughout the project documentation. System Specification and Architecture
- Produce system and subsystem specifications.
- Define system architecture and interface requirements.
- Prepare rules for project-specific data configuration and equipment parameterization based on generic design principles. Integration and Design Testing
- Configure equipment delivered by the Generic Development Center to meet project requirements.
- Configure test benches and integrate and test the solution in a laboratory environment.
- Participate in onboard investigations when required.
- Contribute to track-to-train system testing of the complete signaling solution within the railway infrastructure.
- Analyze test results and provide feedback to support continuous solution improvement. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with System Engineers and other engineering disciplines to ensure that the design complies with the intended system architecture.
- Collaborate with RAM, Safety, Cybersecurity, Software, and Verification & Validation teams throughout the project.
- Act as a technical point of contact for internal stakeholders and customers.
- Organize, lead, and participate in technical reviews, including design and document reviews. Candidate Profile Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Electronics, Automation, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Initial professional experience or a strong interest in railway, aerospace, defense, or another regulated and safety-critical industry. Technical Skills
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand complex technical systems.
- Ability to interpret customer needs and translate them into clear, structured system requirements.
- Knowledge of system design methodologies such as UML or SysML is an advantage.
- Familiarity with change management, requirements management, and traceability tools such as DOORS or ClearQuest.
- Basic understanding of ERTMS/ETCS principles is a strong asset. Languages
- Full professional proficiency in English.
