Excited to work for a key Belgian player in the energy landscape?
The Belgian and European energy landscape is in full swing. Did you know that Elia Belgium plays a crucial role in this? As part of Elia Group, a European transmission system operator, Elia Belgium ensures the reliability and sustainability of the electricity supply in our country. Side‑by‑side with your talented colleagues, you will play a part in building a sustainable, green and reliable energy infrastructure that stimulates economic growth and reduces our ecological footprint. Only together can we make the biggest impact possible We believe in the power of diversity: we are convinced that an inclusive and diverse work environment leads to more innovation, creativity and better results. Function
Elia is strengthening its Scenarios, Market and Adequacy Analysis (SMA) department to address the challenges arising from the evolution of the energy system. The team analyzes developments in the Belgian and European energy landscape and conducts studies on the future of energy, security of supply, flexibility, the transmission network and interconnection projects. As an
Energy Scenario Expert , you contribute to the energy transition by developing forward‑looking scenarios based on market trends, public policies and changes in the energy system. You participate in strategic studies and long‑term outlook projects, develop the assumptions underpinning the scenarios in close collaboration with sector stakeholders (public authorities, DSOs, market participants, etc.), and defend these assumptions with a wide range of stakeholders. These studies include security of supply assessments covering different time horizons, carried out either by Elia (such as the volume proposals for the Belgian Capacity Remuneration Mechanism, the 10-year Adequacy and Flexibility Study, and prospective studies on the future energy system such as the Blueprint study) or by ENTSO‑E. The department also performs economic analyses to support transmission network reinforcement projects. These analyses are used in the context of bilateral projects with other transmission system operators, as part of Elia’s Federal Development Plan, or within the framework of the European TYNDP (Ten‑Year Network Development Plan). Some of these studies, as well as the team's achievements, can be consulted through the Publications section. Your responsibilities Develop the assumptions underpinning short
- and long
- energy scenarios for Belgium and its three regions, working closely with DSOs, Fluxys and market participants through task forces and workshops. Develop and maintain scenarios covering electricity demand, generation capacity, flexibility, energy storage, electrification of end uses and cross-border exchanges. Communicate and defend the developed scenarios in a structured and persuasive manner, adapting your communication to your audience. Analyse technological, economic, regulatory and societal trends that influence the evolution of the energy system. Represent Elia at industry events and contribute to the dialogue with key market stakeholders to monitor developments and further strengthen your expertise. Engage regularly with internal and external stakeholders to challenge, refine and validate the assumptions used in the scenarios. Translate complex data into assumptions that can be effectively used in simulation and adequacy models. Contribute, within your areas of expertise, to the work of European network operators on security of supply and transmission network development through ENTSO‑E and Synergrid.
Your Profile
You have at least 5 years of experience, ideally in energy scenario development, economic and/or market analysis, or energy system modelling. You hold a Master's degree in Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, Mathematics or Data Analytics. You are passionate about the energy system and its challenges, and closely follow developments and key trends in the Belgian and European energy sector. Experience in an energy sector other than electricity is considered an asset, as is knowledge of the Belgian energy landscape and the specific roles of the various network operators and regulators. You communicate in a precise and convincing manner and can adapt your communication to your audience. You are able to synthesize and communicate your findings clearly, both in writing and orally. You combine autonomy, a collaborative mindset and the ability to take ownership of tools or projects. You are comfortable using artificial intelligence tools and can leverage them in a structured way to improve the efficiency and quality of analyses. You have an affinity for data processing (data science and data engineering). Experience with programming, particularly Python, is an asset. Knowledge of and experience in statistics, econometrics and mathematical optimization are considered assets. You are fluent in English and either French or Dutch, with
