As part of our ambition growth, we are hiring a new Country Corporate Counsel for the Benelux region also acting as the Legal Counsel for the Motion business in Belgium, with preferred locations in Belgium or the Netherlands, close to our ABB office locations.

As Country Corporate Counsel for Benelux at ABB Motion, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the legal landscape for ABB's operations in Belgium and the Netherlands. Your expertise in corporate law, compliance, contract negotiation, risk management, and mergers and acquisitions will directly influence the company's growth and innovation.

You'll be entrusted with overseeing essential corporate legal filings, proactively managing legal risks, and championing robust corporate governance practices. Partnering with the Country Holding Officer and senior leadership, you'll help drive business expansion and operational excellence while ensuring ABB remains fully compliant with all local laws and regulations. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end accountability for Legal & Integrity fiduciary duties, corporate governance, and compliance for Benelux legal entities, including corporate secretarial services and regulatory filings.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Benelux Country Holding Officer and senior management on governance, compliance, risk mitigation, and strategic legal matters impacting business operations, mergers and acquisitions, and “license to operate” requirements.
  • Monitor legal affairs, including but not limited to litigations and activity reports and acts as a key advisor on local strategic fiduciary and Motion Belgium business matters.
  • Oversee integrity investigations, contracting compliance, data privacy and protection, cybersecurity, NIS2, and regulatory certifications; ensure alignment with internal audit, HSE, and risk management standards across the business areas.
  • Play a key role in ensuring good corporate governance in the area of accountability in Benelux (structuring, drafting, negotiation, etc.) regarding mergers and acquisitions / divestiture transactions.
  • Provide expert counsel on Motion Belgium contracts, commercial agreements, and shared legal entity matters; harmonize legal processes while supporting BA-specific needs; and collaborate with global Legal & Integrity centers of excellence on specialized topics (IP, antitrust, litigation).
  • Ensure adherence to all internal and statutory regulations and policies including integrity and compliance with ABB values and ethics.
  • Manage and liaise with external service providers, including external legal counsel.
  • Provide legal and integrity training and awareness for key internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience (10 years) as a qualified lawyer in Belgium or the Netherlands, with an LLM or equivalent degree from a recognized university.
  • Expertise in contract review, drafting, negotiation, mergers & acquisitions, and corporate secretarial duties, ensuring compliance and effective legal risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice that balances risk and supports commercial objectives.
  • Proven track record in driving compliance with GDPR, corporate governance, and fiduciary responsibilities in complex environments.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously and deliver results under pressure.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the capacity to explain complex or sensitive legal topics clearly to diverse audiences and influence stakeholders effectively.
