Our clients, a Brussels-based company in the energy sector, is looking for a Freelance Chief Accountant for a 5-month assignment, starting in April.

Key Responsibilities as Freelance Chief Accountant will include:

  • Advanced Accounting Operations: Oversee and execute general accounting tasks in collaboration with the junior accountant & controlling department, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Accounting Process Leadership:
  • Purchase/Sales Accounting: Review invoices/credit notes, and payment bookings.
  • Finance Accounting: Ensure accurate booking of bank statements, weekly payments, cash flow & credit line follow-up.
  • General Accounting: Handle account reconciliations, oversee credit card and expense booking processes, and finalize monthly provisions.
  • Payroll Accounting: Collaborate with HR to ensure timely and accurate payroll accounting, including journal entries, salary reconciliations, tax filings, and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Tax Accounting: Manage VAT returns, corporate income tax (ISOC), and other tax-related obligations. Ensure timely and accurate tax declarations, compliance with local regulations, and liaise with tax authorities or advisors as needed.
  • Project Management Accounting: Collaborate closely with the PMO to monitor and control project cost allocation, forecast expenditures, and ensure alignment between accounting and PM tools.
  • Monthly Closing Management: Take ownership of the monthly & quarterly closing processes, including the preparation and review of provisions, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Support junior accountants by providing mentorship and technical guidance.
  • Act as a resource for resolving complex queries and providing clarity to stakeholders.
  • Work in close collaboration with controlling and PMO departments.

Key qualifications required for the role of Freelance Chief Accountant:

  • Relevant experience in a similar role in an international environment.
  • Strong expertise in accounting principles with a sharp analytical mindset.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems for accounting (ADFINITY is a strong asset).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, solve problems, and communicate effectively.
  • Leadership experience, including mentoring or managing junior profiles.
  • Proficiency in French and English (written and oral).
