About you Your Mission Wequity (wequity.company) is a Legal AI / RegTech company. Our team members work together to build technology that transforms how legal professionals work. Our projects use AI and data science to make legal processes more efficient, accessible, and reliable. As a Lead AI Engineer, you will be a key technical leader in our multidisciplinary team, primarily focused on developing Nora (nora.legal), our new AI-powered platform for notary practices. We need our engineers to be versatile and enthusiastic in addressing new problems as we continue to push technology forward. You will design, test, deploy and maintain our applications as you grow and evolve. You will take end-to-end technical ownership while collaborating closely with developers and product stakeholders. Your work will directly impact how notaries and legal professionals handle document processing, extraction, and analysis. The tech stack is Python-based with cloud infrastructure on GCP. While these foundations are used in our current products, we are still early in our journey with many things we want to build. As an early team member, you will have a significant opportunity to help shape the team's products and the way we build them. Outcomes Translate business problems into engineering solutions while bridging product and technical needs. Design and develop robust backends, APIs, and asynchronous workflows. Lead document processing and AI/LLM initiatives (extraction, RAG, etc.) for legal documents. Deploy, maintain, and optimize production applications on cloud infrastructure. Requirements Skills - Must-have Communication & Product Sense. Excellent communication and collaboration with developers, with strong product sensitivity (able to scope, prioritize, explain clearly, bridge product-tech, understand client stakes, and arbitrate between must-have and nice-to-have). Python. Main stack in Python, with solid understanding of APIs, backends, and asynchronous workflows. Cloud & Production. Comfortable with cloud and production architectures, with concrete experience deploying, operating, and maintaining applications in production. Document Processing & AI. Significant experience in document processing (PDF, Word, etc.) and applying AI to documents (LLM, document processing, extraction, RAG, etc.). AI-Assisted Development. Intelligent use of AI tools for development (e.g., Cursor or equivalent): knowledge of strengths and limitations, best practices, rules/protocols, ability to use them as an accelerator rather than a black box. Technical Ownership. Ability to take end-to-end technical ownership (autonomy, responsibility, global vision, and pragmatism). Collaborative coding best practices. You can review code written by your colleagues and mentor team members. Git. Proficient with git and version control workflows. English. Ability to speak and write fluently in English. Please know that even if you don't have experience in all the areas above but think you could do a great job and are excited about shaping company culture, finding great people, and building great teams, we'd love to hear from you Skills - Nice-to-have Google Cloud Platform. Experience with GCP (Cloud Run, etc.). Supabase. Knowledge of Supabase (auth, storage, Postgres, RLS, etc.). Frontend. Frontend knowledge and good command of React, or at minimum the ability to understand frontend code and communicate effectively with frontend developers. Advanced LLM Systems. Experience with more advanced or larger-scale LLM systems (pipelines, embeddings, vector DB, prompts, quota and cost management). CI/CD. Experience using tools such as GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins, Docker. Startup Experience. Experience in a startup / scale-up context. Higher education. A bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, or any other Engineering and Science related field, or equivalent practical experience. Cultural Fit Open to feedback. Being willing to take on board feedback from a range of sources, give it careful consideration and, where appropriate, to act on it while managing your internal gut reactions. Growth mindset. Believing that your most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. Inclusive. Striving to make sure everyone has a say. Benefits What we offer Meaningful work. A dynamic team taking on challenging and meaningful work, using technology to transform the legal industry. Competitive salary. Competitive salary package according to your experience with flexible and optimized taxation such as Intellectual Property development, which is less taxed. High Equity. Significant stock-options plan with strong growth potential as an early team member. Learning. Wequity will invest in your development by offering you relevant trainings, certifications, on the job learning, mentoring and coaching from senior advisors. High Growth Potential. As a key member of the Engineering team at an early stage, you will have exceptional opportunities to grow into senior technical leadership or management roles as the company scales rapidly. Flexibility. The ability to have flexible working hours and to work from home part of the time. Insurances. Best-in-class health insurance package. About Wequity Wequity (wequity.company) is a Legal AI / RegTech company building technology that transforms how legal professionals work. Our flagship product, Nora (nora.legal), is an AI-powered platform designed specifically for notary practices, helping them streamline document processing, extraction, and analysis. Diversity & Inclusion We are committed to equal opportunities in the workplace regardless of ethnic origin, color, ancestry, religion, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, or gender identity. In addition, by legal requirements, we consider applications from people who meet the criteria in terms of qualifications, regardless of their criminal record. If you have a disability or special need that requires special arrangements, please let us know. Since we are a startup with limited means, we are unfortunately not able to sponsor work permits for non-EU citizens at the moment. Why should I join Wequity? On top of the aforementioned benefits, Wequity aspires to be an organization that reflects the diverse audience that our products and technology serve. We believe that in addition to hiring the best talent, a diversity of perspectives, ideas, and cultures enable the creation of better products and services. Internally, our structure and dynamics reflect the importance we put in values, sustainability, and wellbeing: We work with an organizational structure whereby all team members take their seats at the table, can launch initiatives, challenge each other, and give each other feedback. We foster an enjoyable team environment by taking the needs of each employee into account and organizing optional team connectivity events. We are committed to putting our values into practice by obtaining various labels in the future (e.g. B-Corp) which will guide us from an environmental, social, and structural point of view. Why may I not be excited about Wequity? Ownership. We are a small team, so you should be comfortable with uncertainty and taking ownership. We expect you to be proactive, be able to set your priorities, and be able to follow time constraints. Lean. Since our startup tries to remain lean, priorities may shift and some of your work might be dropped to focus on impact. Moving quickly. We are moving quickly. This does not mean crazy working hours but does imply high productivity. You need to be comfortable in being focused at work. Collaborative. We want you to be collaborative, bring your ideas and experience to help us improve our team and ways of working.
