Position Overview Axelera AI seeks a highly skilled and experienced Senior PCB Layout Engineer to design and develop print circuit boards that underpin our AI systems. The role involves translating schematic diagrams into PCB layouts, managing eCAD component libraries, and collaborating with Electronic Manufacturing Service (EMS) partners to deliver reliable, high‑speed boards. Key Responsibilities Component Library Management: Maintain and update the CAD components library, ensuring it includes latest components, footprints, and 3D models; collaborate with mechanical and thermal designers; synchronize data across eCAD platforms. Schematic to PCB Design: Translate schematics into compliant PCB layouts, focusing on signal integrity, power integrity, and EMC/EMI; optimize board utilization and stack‑up; design high‑density, multi‑layer PCBs with Altium Designer, Xpedition, OrCAD, or KiCad. Layout Design: Design high‑speed layouts for LPDDR4+ memory and PCIe 3.0+ interfaces; create low‑voltage, high‑current delivery networks for GPUs and processors; use simulation tools (HyperLynx, Keysight ADS) for SI/PI verification. Collaboration with EMS: Prepare designs for manufacturing, ensuring DFM/DFT compliance; interface with EMS during production to resolve technical issues and support PCB assembly. Test and Validation: Coordinate functional, electrical, and mechanical validation on final boards, including VNA, TDR, thermal cycling, and mechanical stress tests. Documentation: Create and maintain complete design documentation—schematics, layout files, BOMs, stack‑ups, mechanical drawings, manufacture packages—and ensure internal standards are met. Qualifications Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred. 5–10 years of PCB layout experience (multilayer, HDI). Proficiency with Altium, Xpedition, OrCAD, or KiCad. Strong in SI/PI/EMI‑compliant layouts, stack‑ups, controlled impedance, and advanced via structures. Ability to balance electrical, thermal, and mechanical constraints. Solid knowledge of PCB manufacturing, DFM/DFT, and material selection. Hands‑on experience with high‑speed interfaces (LPDDR4+, PCIe 3.0+) and PDN design for low‑voltage, high‑current systems. Interpret SI/PI simulations and collaborate with simulation engineers. Experience with eCAD‑MCAD workflows (NX, Creo, SolidWorks). Familiar with VNA, TDR, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and relevant PCB standards. Understanding of thermal cycling, mechanical stress, and reliability testing. Strong problem‑solving, attention to detail, and ability to work in fast‑paced environments. Fluent English; Chinese a plus. Collaborative team player capable of autonomous research and planning. Location We offer a flexible arrangement: work from an Axelera AI office in Italy (Milan or Florence), work fully remotely from Italy, or relocate and work from Florence or Milan.
