Freelance Position: Senior Service Engineer – VAS & Charging Systems Location: Brussels, Belgium Contract period: 1 December 2025 – 31 May 2026 (extension possible) Workload: Full-time, 40 hours per week About the Role Our client is looking for a seasoned technical specialist to support our teams working on value-added service platforms. Your focus will be on messaging solutions, service delivery environments, and/or online charging technologies. You will collaborate closely with engineers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure reliable, secure, and compliant service operations across these platforms. Key Tasks & Responsibilities Work alongside domain engineers on messaging platforms, service delivery solutions, or online charging systems. Bring deep knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Messaging and VAS platforms Online charging environments (Huawei or Nokia) Security and compliance for telecom service platforms (e.g., GDPR, NIS2), including risk analysis, secure deployment, and implementation of required security updates. Review and refine technical documentation provided by external suppliers. Coordinate with internal teams and external service providers to ensure smooth delivery. Validate that delivered components meet the agreed technical and quality requirements. Support feature validation and testing activities for VAS-related systems. Provide technical expertise to internal teams for issues or improvements related to VAS technologies. Participate in an on-call rotation to manage critical incidents outside regular working hours. Skills & Experience Required Preferably familiar with application development or low-code platforms used in service delivery environments. Strong understanding of telecom technologies relevant to VAS (IMS, SIP/ISC, CAMEL, INAP, MAP, Diameter). Experience with integration technologies such as SOAP, REST, XML, JSON, WSDL, JavaScript is a plus. Comfortable working in Agile teams or motivated to develop Agile skills. Able to coordinate and collaborate effectively with vendors and external partners. Knowledge of mobile network architectures including 3GPP, 4G, and 5G and associated signalling protocols (Diameter, CAP, SBI). Good command of Unix/Linux systems as well as relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL). Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Splunk, Elastic stack). Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills within messaging or service delivery environments. Capable of working independently while functioning effectively in a team setting. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in English required; Dutch or French is an advantage. Additional Notes Experience with value-added service platforms and security frameworks (especially NIS2) is highly beneficial. Telecom industry experience is essential.
