VP of Engineering

As the Vice President of Engineering , Life Sciences at N-SIDE, you will define and lead the global engineering strategy and execution across our Life Sciences software portfolio. Reporting directly to the Managing Director Life Sciences , you will play a critical role in shaping N-SIDE’s technical direction, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions that support sustainable growth and customer value. You will own strategic decisions related to engineering architecture, delivery excellence, technical investment, and organizational maturity . You will lead and support a high-performing Engineering organization, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Working in close partnership with Product, you will ensure that technical execution enables product ambition, business priorities, and long-term platform scalability. You will join N-SIDE Life-Sciences at a pivotal moment as we are moving from a portfolio of segmented applications towards an ecosystem of connected applications. Furthermore, we are transitioning from a legacy Scala-based technical stack with a single-tenant architecture towards a more modern technical stack based on Typescript, React and Nest.js with a multi-tenant architecture. What you’ll do: Define and drive engineering strategy Define and own the long-term engineering strategy in alignment with N-SIDE’s Life Sciences strategy, growth objectives, and product vision, ensuring it supports and enables the rest of the organization. Ensure business priorities and product roadmaps are translated into robust, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions. Drive architectural decisions that balance speed, quality, scalability, and long-term sustainability. Keep in touch with emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, to inform strategic and technical choices. Lead a high-performing engineering organization Mentor and inspire engineering leaders and teams (25 people), fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Build organizational capability to deliver across the full software lifecycle, with clear expectations for delivery, quality,and impact. Ensure delivery excellence and operational reliability Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery through strong engineering execution. Establish and monitor engineering KPIs (flow metrics, quality metrics, etc.) to drive data-informed improvements. Lead the evolution of engineering practices, standards, and tooling, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to develop operational excellence across all engineering teams. Partner across the organization Collaborate closely with Product Management to align engineering execution with product strategy and customer value. Partner with Sales, Marketing and Strategic Account Managers to support complex engagements and provide technical credibility. Work closely with Professional Services and Operations to ensure long-term customer success. Act as a key contributor to strategic discussions, providing technical insight, trade-off analysis, and risk assessment. About you: You are a hands-on, strategic engineering leader who combines deep technical expertise with strong people leadership and business acumen. You know how to manage engineering organizations while maintaining delivery excellence and technical integrity. Engineering Leadership & Organization Building Proven experience leading engineering teams in a complex software environment. Ability to empower teams through clarity, trust, and accountability. Comfortable leading through change and organizational maturity phases. Data-driven mindset, using metrics to guide decisions and continuously improve engineering performance. Technical & Architectural Excellence Strong understanding of software architecture, cloud-based systems, modern development practices, and compliance considerations. Ability to make and defend architectural and technical trade-offs aligned with business priorities. Experience in building technical partnerships and managing third-party integrations. Experience transitioning an engineering organisation from a legacy technical stack to a modern technical stack is a plus. Experience in relevant regulated industries (GxP, CFR11, …) is a plus. Partner effectively with cross‑functional leaders and your engineering team to align technical strategy with business goals. Foster open communication and collaboration, making complex technical topics understandable for all stakeholders.
