Primary Responsibilities:
- Accountability for the design, development, and implementation of molecular pathology/biology assays. Demonstrate proficiency in designing and executing single/multiplex immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and spatial transcriptomics.
- Perform or supervise the design and execution of orthogonal experiments complementary to molecular pathology workflow, including generation of control cell lines, LCM, immunostaining, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
- Perform image analysis with mínimal supervision using multiple digital pathology tools/platforms or AI modules (e.g., Visiopharm, Halo, ImageJ).
- May assist, perform, or oversee routine histology workload (e.g., FFPE and OCT matrices), including but not limited to tissue trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining (H&E, and special stains)
- May assist, perform, or oversee tissue collection from different preclinical species for regular or molecular pathology process optimization.
- May assist, perform, or oversee the preparation of tissue specimens for molecular imaging/tissue MALDI Mass Spectrometry Imaging (MALDI MSI), immunoblot, and PCR.
- Proficient in using and troubleshooting automated molecular pathology instruments.
- Independently authors comprehensive and integrated validation, technical, and investigational molecular pathology reports.
- Communicate molecular pathology results in the form of written and oral reports to internal team members and management. Attends and presents at pertinent internal and external scientific meetings.
- Ensures the timely and accurate upkeep of the lab's electronic notebooks and digital molecular pathology database (scanned slides, micrographs) to ensure data quality, integrity, and traceability (according with DDI guidelines).
- Works closely with the Pathologists and other scientists within and outside of PSTS' functional groups.
- Helps in identifying novel innovative technologies in the field of molecular pathology and how they can be applied in drug discovery, safety, and development.
- Complies with the safety and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.
degree (area of focus in pathology, molecular pathology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences or related fields) with at least 2 (for Ph.
D. holder) or 5 (For M.S. holder) years of experience in pharmaceutical industry, CRO, or Academia.Experience / skills:
- Experience and technical skills in applied molecular pathology and tissue technology is required.
- Extensive experience with diverse automated histology and molecular pathology platforms (e.g., Ventana Discovery Ultra, DAKO, Leica Bond) is required.
- Histotechnology expertise is required.
- Strong experience working with image analysis platforms (e.g., HALO, Visiopharm, or ImageJ) is required.
- Handson experience with routine histology and molecular pathology techniques (immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization) in pharmaceutical industry or academia is required.
- Basic knowledge and experience with single cell analysis and spatial transcriptomics is a plus.
- Broad scientific knowledge and handson experience with background literature and database research, selection and validation of suitable reagents, protocol design and execution, reagent optimization and validation, and crossreactivity studies is required.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and experience in working with diverse teams globally is required.
- A strong publication record in relevant scientific fields is an asset.
