We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and skilled Expert Scientist to join the Global Process Engineering Unit team within GSK Technical Research and Development located in Rixensart, Belgium.

The mission of the Technical Research and Development group is to deliver and transfer stable vaccine formulations (including recombinant proteins, mRNA, adenovirus, live attenuated viruses etc ) and robust processes (fill and finish) to the clinical and manufacturing sites within GSK Vaccines network and CDMOs.

In this position, you will participate in drug product development programs where you will design, conduct, interpret, and present the results of process development studies with a specific focus on secondary operations (mixing, filling, filtration).

The Global Process Engineering Team in Rixensart has a large expertise in filling, and drying technologies thus making important contributions to the Technical Research and Development department in support of Drug product development programs.

This role will provide you the opportunity to lead key activities to progress your career.

Your responsibilities:

  • Practical and theoretical experience to conduct late stage operations (Mixing, Filtration, Filling and Finish, including Devices) is a must.
  • Knowledge in lyophilisation operations is a plus.
  • Design and execute specific development projects in collaboration with the related platform staff, following the quality by design framework.
  • When available use extensively the available shear stress scale down mathematical model for mixing and filling in the process evaluations performed on the products under your responsibility.
  • Responsible for the conception, design, implementation, and interpretation of scientific and technical data to support own area projects, in collaboration with related platform staff.
  • Make sound scientific/technical decisions/recommendations based on a balance of data, analysis, experience and fundamental science.
  • Train and oversee platform staff on equipment operations, data analysis, and other projectrelated work.
  • Solve complex problems through collaborations with others, taking a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Generate strong relationships in the area of technical development with high quality partners beneficial to the organization, both internally and externally, to strengthen development/implementation of new methods/technologies in the field of late stage operations.
  • Prepare and present scientific data within Technical R&D / Technical Development team or in Technical taskforce.
  • Author and review technical protocols and reports in support of various project development stages.
  • Participate to product transfer for new products and give guidance to the other team members.
  • Evaluate new mixing/filling/filtration or process analytical technologies for parenteral products, participate to the building of the innovation vision inside the TRD for the Global Process Engineering platform.
  • Conduct and participates to experimental evaluation of this type of new technology and give recommendations.
  • Utilize technical process knowledge to meet regulatory requirements appropriate for stage of development.
  • When possible propose collaborations with external companies or academia to pursue applied research projects in your field or outside your field of expertise.

Basic Qualifications:
  • We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:_
  • PhD in Biotechnology, Bioengineering or Life Sciences + 4 or 5 years of experience acquired in industrial/academic environment or equivalent acquired through professional experience.
  • Previous experience in late stage operations (Mixing, Filtration, Filling and Finish, including Devices), is a must.
  • Knowledge of Scientific and Operational Excellence (e.g. elab notebook, batch records) is an asset.
  • Good understanding of biopharm / vaccine development process.
  • Ability to work with crossfunctional teams and communicate effectively with different departments and levels of the organization.
  • Able to work in a matrix environment.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and French.
  • Ability to conduct research projects autonomously.
  • Knowledge in modelisation of secondary operations is an asset.
  • Knowledge and previous handson laboratory work in product development is an asset.
