We're seeking a Head of Compliance in Belgium to contribute to the development of top-notch products in the EEA. Wise Europe is certified as a payment institution in Belgium and has authorization throughout the EEA. In this role, you will enhance the team's interactions with regulators by ensuring a strong grasp of regulatory requirements and how we fulfill them through our products, procedures, and controls. You will carry the ultimate responsibility for maintaining our Belgian regulatory authorizations and ensuring their relevance to our product offerings and features.
Your mission:
- Establish and implement an effective and scalable Compliance oversight program for Wise Europe, with a focus on AML/CTF responsibilities.
- Lead and motivate a team of Compliance professionals overseeing regulatory and financial crime compliance.
- Cultivate trust with regulators, overseeing the relationship with the Belgian regulator and collaborating with your team on a strategic engagement plan.
- Engage in project details and offer technical compliance assistance across your team and region, being ready to step in when necessary.
- Manage the relationship with Wise Europe's Board concerning Compliance matters, demonstrating proficiency in projects and cases.
- Collaborate with the Internal Audit function to ensure alignment and appropriate assurance processes.
- Own, update, and expand existing Belgium compliance frameworks, policies, and documentation to support new products or features.
- Monitor regulatory and financial crime risks, developing response plans as required.
- Enhance the control framework by implementing clear, auditable processes in line with regional standards.
- Tackle new challenges as they emerge within the compliance program on a project basis.
This role offers you the opportunity to:

- Ensure compliance is at the core of product developments by managing obligations across multiple regions and providing assurance to senior management.

This role requires a problem-solving mindset and the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Expertise in regulatory and financial crime compliance.
- Experience in dealing with regulators, designing processes, and maintaining relationships with policymakers.
- Passion for enhancing compliance strategies and improving existing practices.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across the organization.
- Desire to work in a fast-growing environment and experience in FinTech or payments compliance.
