'Ceramic Synchronisms in Middle Bronze Age Crete' (Regional and community funding: Special Research Fund), with Prof.

Area of research of the project
The Middle Bronze Age in Crete is a period of demographic expansion, stunning material cultural production, and growing interaction with the broader Eastern Mediterranean.
The archaeological deposits associated with this period produced large amounts of pottery that have made it possible to establish the Middle Minoan IA to Middle Minoan IIIB ceramic sequence in the different Protopalatial and early Neopalatial sites on the island (ca BCE).
In this framework, and considering the bulk of the material, ongoing refinements to the Minoan ceramic typology, and new research issues pertaining to continuity and upheaval throughout this long period, the objective of the project is to synchronise major historical events in Middle Bronze Age Crete, based on the study of a selection of key unpublished palatial deposits.
Area of your post-doctoral research
At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research.
Your task will be to study and publish the ceramic material and stratigraphy of a selection of deposits associated to the Middle Minoan IIB phase from the original and main structure of the First Palace at Phaistos, in order to contribute to a clear definition of the ceramic and stratigraphic sequence of the Protopalatial building.
Your task will be to process published and archival evidence related to the Middle Minoan IIB occupation in the edifice, to organise and complete the study of the ceramic material from the South-West Building on the Lower West Court of the Phaistos Palace, and to prepare the results of the work for publication.
You will be working in collaboration with the Scuola Archeologica Italiana di Atene (SAIA) and the teams involved at Phaistos.
We expect you to be a dynamic and meticulous researcher.
Ability to carry out extensive fieldwork on site is required in the framework of your appointment. The ability to interact, with the other members of the Phaistos team is a requirement.
_WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR_
- You hold a thesisbased doctorate in archaeology with a specialisation in Protopalatial ceramic at Phaistos (obtained max. 6 years ago. This term of 6 years is determined by the date written on the abovementioned required diploma).
- You hold a demonstrable experience in the processing and study of Minoan ceramic.
- You have the will and ability to carry out extensive fieldwork in Phaistos.
- You have excellent command (C1) of Italian and English, good command (B2) of Greek.

12 months of fulltime employment as a postdoctoral researcher. The expected start date of the postdoctoral fellowship is the
