Job DescriptionAbout the role:

The operational packaging Manager will support the Head of packaging Manager in human resources management and operational activities as planning, organizing and managing the Packaging operations assigned to the Takeda Lessines operating unit.

How you will contribute:

The operational packaging Manager is responsible for managing the manufacturing operations of his Packaging Line in line with the Takeda Business Strategy Plan:

  • Guarantee the output of Packaging Line assuring the respect of the quality, production schedule and standard cost.
  • Ensure strict compliance with cGMP, 21 CFR's, Corporate, Divisional and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote individuals in technical, organizational and management fields.
  • Manage a multi-shift production team, ensuring resource availability, and developing staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Strongly support the Takeda culture in Ethics, Compliance, EHS and People well-being.
  • Respond to the market demand in the best conditions of QUALITY and DELIVERY LEAD TIME through the optimum adjustment and utilization of technical and human resources.
  • Drives the deployment of the Continuous Improvement (CI) culture across his field of responsibilities; he is also responsible for the good execution of the project portfolio and increase the performance on his Packaging Line through the digitalization aspect (cobots, augmented reality...).
  • Guarantee the commitments are met, implement lean manufacturing process, report and followed KPI's (People, EHS, Quality, Supply and Values), facilitates process improvements and fosters team development and flexibility.

People:

  • Ensure the daily management of the teams (Shifts: Morning, Afternoon, Night, Weekend), this represents approximately 100 people.
  • Jointly with Human Resources, manage the multi-shift team, hire new employees, perform active coaching and mentoring of team members, following absenteeism, manage individual cases and set goals for the team members (PMO).
  • Ensure a presence at meeting with unions to support the Lead Packaging Manager.
  • Ensure a backup function of Head of Packaging.
  • Coach resources, develop team spirit and drive talent, ensure the development and progression of the members of his team.
  • Optimize manpower on all productions lines and to be in link with the financial KPI FTE.
  • Supporting the process of performance evaluation of his team members.
  • Provide full feedback on technical and relationship issues with management.
  • Support the approach defined by the management.
  • Ensure the well-being inside his team and a good social climate by ensuring a smooth communication, by cultivating listening and dialogue.
  • Ensure a strict respect of the company's work regulation.

EHS Security:

  • Support and respect the EHS politic of company.
  • Have an EHS focus through the different projects.
  • Ensure the safety of the packaging Team by supporting and participating in EHS initiatives and by on-the-floor presence through Gemba. Anticipate the EHS risk.
  • Promote and develop safety culture in close collaboration with EHS department (participate to monthly EHS meetings).
  • Guarantee the EHS KPI within the team.
  • Ensure a fast reaction to EHS event (Beacon, Yellow Belt, Action plan, ...) in the target time.

Quality:

  • Ensure the strict application of cGMPs, 21 CFRs, and corporate procedures in the packaging team under his responsibility.
  • Ensure that all products meet the quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the defense of files, including oral defense during local and external inspections.
  • Guarantee the Quality KPI inside your team (PR, training, documentation NC...).
  • Consolidate the quality documents (SOP) and the packaging practices by ensuring the adequacy with the activities in the packaging lines.
  • Ensure for him and his team the respect of the defined training targets (in %).
  • Ensure the quality inside the packaging Team by supporting and participating in quality initiatives and by on-the-floor presence through Gemba.
  • Support the root cause investigation related to process deviations and implement corrective and preventive actions in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the GDP in his team by analyzing the main root cause of error and by taking corrective actions to reduce them.
  • Ensure the follow-up and all quality issues in his team by collaborate with the quality team. Document all deviations and escalate them in the TIER meeting.

Supply:

  • Ensure the volumes of packaging inside his team (RCCP, Meeting planning).
  • Analyze the performance of the packaging line using dedicated tools, manage and report Key Performance Indicators (KPI's, OEE, performance lines...).
  • Proactively interface with production Team, internal suppliers, and internal customers to identify and implement areas of continuous improvement (CI). Lead, coach and oversight CI initiatives under his scope of responsibility.
  • Effectively coordinate with facilities and maintenance staff to ensure production equipment is functional and available for production (Shut Down, Weekly review...).
  • Ensure an operational support for his team (AM, PM, Night and Weekend).
  • Ensure a role of backup of the Head of packaging during his absence.
  • Perform every day a Gemba walk for the AM and PM team and ensure regular presence for Night and weekend team (GEMBA Focus: People, EHS, Quality, Supply, Housekeeping).
  • Lead initiatives related to the improvement of the existing management Control systems through Yellow Belt, Leader Standard Work and Tier meeting.
    - Ensure the completion of the packing schedule.
    - Ensure control of production performance via monitoring indicators.
    - Deliver a product of quality on time and meet the market demand. - Optimize capacity (increase the output).
    - Participate in multidisciplinary work meetings: Tier, Planning,...
    - Actively collaborate in the process of continuous improvement.
    - Improve packaging methods.
    - Coordinate the packaging design activities.
    - Ensure the respect of the 5S in the packaging line.
  • Participate on the development for his team by regular training to ensure the implementation of the digitalization inside his organization.
  • Coach several foremen to assure the performance of his team (SIC Short interval Control). Be able to lead by example.
  • Ensure his presence in several meetings (Core team, TIER meeting, Weekly Review, Planning...).

  • Minimize the discard of product and rework.
What you bring to Takeda:
  • Bachelor in Biochemistry/Science/Bio-Engineering or higher degree (Master) or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years in a position of Manufacturing/Manufacturing Sciences/Process Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in people management, ideally with manufacturing profiles.
  • Mastering DMAIC methodology and associated statistical tools.
  • Fluent in French and good knowledge in English (both oral and written).
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma tools and Project Management skill.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and problem solving with process and equipment.
  • Experience with automated process equipment and control.
  • Broad technical knowledge in Packaging and more specifically in digitalization (Cobots, EVI...).
  • Experience in pharmaceutical environment.
  • Be able to take decisions such as: Selection of candidates though the hiring process, real-time decision when issues occur in production, selection of improvements and decision on mid-term strategy, organizational aspects of the packaging activities.
Important Considerations:

  • Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.
  • Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
  • Work in a cold, wet environment.
  • Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary.
  • Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
